ORC: Guest Bedroom Makeover Reveal
I can hardly believe we’re finally sharing the guest bedroom makeover reveal today as we end Week 8 of the One Room Challenge!
A HUGE THANK YOU to the One Room Challenge and media partner Better Homes and Gardens for hosting this bi-annual event where designers, bloggers, and influencers work to transform their spaces from top to bottom in 8 weeks.
This is our 7th time participating in the One Room Challenge. While we usually only have 6 weeks to complete a room, I am beyond grateful for the extra 2 weeks.
We had a TON of shipping and product delays this season and absolutely would not have been able to finish our space in time if not for the extension.
If you’re new to The Crowned Goat, welcome, we’re happy you’re here!
Just as a refresher, the guest bedroom has undergone lots of changes over the years. It went through an interesting shabby chic-inspired phase…
then I fell in love with neutrals…
I tried to make it a home office but as with our last ORC Guest Bedroom Makeover Reveal, the space just never felt quite right no matter what we did with it.
For years, I put off even finishing the room because I just couldn’t get a clear vision. But once we turned our outdoor shed into my office during Season 6 of the ORC, I knew almost immediately we would turn the room back into a bedroom.
But not just any bedroom would do.
I wanted the space to make you want to snuggle up with a good book after a long day as soon as you walked through the door.
And I’m excited to say, I think we accomplished that!
Antique Bed, Bed Crown, and Linens…
We’ve had this antique iron bed sitting in a closet for years and in Week 2 I shared how to add patina to a metal bed frame which changed the look completely.
My Mom is family-famous for creating “Princess and the Pea” type beds, so I ordered all the linens and she helped me put it together.
In Week 3, we found out the bed crown I had based the *entire* room around was no longer available and spent nearly 3 weeks scrambling to come up with something else.
We were running out of time when my bestie S (who also runs our website), suggested we check just one more time before we built our own.
As serendipity would have it, one bed crown was available, and we scooped it up immediately.
Unfortunately, the bed crown curtains were not delivered in the color I had ordered them, so we had to scramble again to come up with a quick and easy solution. By this time, it was Week 7 and I was just about panicked.
Our solution was to use multiple duvet covers from IKEA which worked out far better than I could have ever imagined!
The pattern looks much better than the solid curtain fabric I had planned to use, and it taught me a HUGE lesson in creativity under pressure too.
Nightstands, Lamps, and Accessories…
Speaking of which, the nightstand I was going to use next to the bed turned out to be way too modern for the curvy lines of the antique bed frame.
My Mom came to the rescue when she let me use the painted nightstand from one of the bedrooms at Bliss Barracks. I was pretty sure I was going to have to repaint it when I picked it up, but we all wound up loving the Cartouche Green, so we decided to leave it.
The bed frame, crown, and curtains are pretty ornate, so I wanted to keep the nightstands as simple as possible.
I found part of a horse bridle from Kensington Palace at a local antique mall while out shopping with my Mom for the ORC guest bedroom makeover reveal early on.
Both baskets are thrifted finds, the greenery is from IKEA, the books are from our Book of the Month list, and I’ll share the lamp makeovers soon.
For the other side of the bed, my Mom also let me use a small side table from her stash. The one we ordered is not set to arrive for several weeks.
French Country Dresser, Mirror, and Accessories…
The French Country dresser is similar to the one my Mom grew up with as a little girl. It’s been painted all sorts of pretty neutral colors, so I gave it a quick refresh in Week 5.
Then I topped with the DIY Anthropologie-inspired mirror we created in Week 6.
I usually like to keep surfaces as neat as possible.
My Mom found these perfectly patinaed books and made the flower arrangement. I found the vintage stirrups to use as bookends and we called it good to go!
This little seating area is one of my favorite spots from the guest bedroom makeover reveal! I don’t watch a lot of TV, but I love flipping through decorating books and magazines almost every day.
It’s going to be a great spot for morning quiet time too!
European Oak Inspired Desk, Slipcovered Chair, Art and Accessories…
In addition to neat surfaces, I’m also a big proponent of having a desk area in each bedroom.
I know it’s not always possible, but I can’t tell you the number of backaches I’ve suffered from having to sit on the floor to work or been distracted trying to type at the kitchen table because there was not a desk in the bedroom.
Truthfully, I had planned to use a completely different desk.
But I loved this one so much from my office, I decided to use the new one in my office and give the old one a European Oak-inspired makeover. You can read all about that process in this post.
Using my Mom’s antique French inkwells and stand was not even on my radar until she brought them over. My sister and I were with her the day she bought it at an outdoor event from an 85-year-old man who was so sweet we wanted to take him to dinner!
The slipcovered chair and pillow cover are both from IKEA and the poster of Princess Margaret was delivered so late, it almost didn’t make the ORC guest bedroom makeover reveal post at all.
Guest Bathroom Progress Update…
The ORC is always a TON of work but I’m really excited about the way everything came together.
For those of you who know we’ve also been working on the guest bathroom during this time, we’re still running a few weeks behind. It’s getting there though.
Here’s a sneak peek…
ORC Guest Bedroom Makeover Obstacles and Opportunities…
I’m sure I say this after every One Room Challenge but these 8 weeks have been a total blur.
We’ve faced many, many challenges. The shipping delays alone set us back more than I could have imagined. I can’t tell you how many bags of candy I’ve eaten.
It took nearly 4 tries before we found the perfect shade of custom blush pink thanks to a Lowes employee named Terry that refused to give up!
We battled rain and windstorms that left us without power for hours, multiple days in a row. We had to deal with materials that were not delivered as we had ordered, paint fails when we were up against the clock, and some really difficult family news too.
But we also found new ways to rally, to push our creativity to the limit and I learned how to pivot and make decisions quicker than I’ve ever been able to make them before.
Normally, I struggle with analysis paralysis when it comes to my own home but in the words of my bestie S who has been unofficially promoted 😉 to design assistant, “Listen, Linda. This is NO TIME for indecision!”
ORC Guest Bedroom Makeover Reveal Thank Yous…
My Mom and sisters were also a HUGE help in keeping me on track!
My Mom worked out here for 2 days straight helping me bring together all the details. Both of my sisters called nearly every day to check in, offer advice or give a pep talk when needed.
They would tell you otherwise, but honestly, I couldn’t have done it without the love and support of these four fabulously creative (and uber calm) ladies.
Finally, thank you to all of you who encouraged us with your sweet comments, DMs, and emails. They meant so much!
There were a million times I wondered if we would ever make it through the drama when your kind words helped to keep us going and I’m forever grateful.
Don’t forget, there are so many fantastic rooms to celebrate over at the One Room Challenge! You can find additional reveal day makeovers for the featured designers here and the blogger and influencers here.

Coco, this is stunning! Tge bed crown is gorgeous and the delicate pattern is perfect. I think you went with the right choice.
Love the bookends so much and the rug is so petty.
You did an amazing job!
Thank you so much, Cindy! We could not have made it without your kind words and sweet support along the way. They definitely kept us going when we were ready to give up. I’m thankful the bed crown turned out the way it did because I don’t think the plain fabric would have done it justice. All the days of having to pivot were totally worth it. Big hugs and thank yous, CoCo
Even with all of the mishaps, bad shipping and obstacles, I so love how it turned out! You know I love pink and that dresser. Well now I love everything else in it too. And that blush color on the walls brings it all together. So pretty. Any guest would feel like a queen in there. 🙂 Great job!
You are so sweet, Cindy, thank you so much! That blushy pink has definitely stolen my heart too. Even with all the crazy, we are beyond grateful for the way everything came together in the end. I’m pretty sure I finally have a few gray hairs but I know it builds character so I’ll take it 🙂 Thank you for being such a fabulous cheerleader along the way. We couldn’t have done it without you. Big hugs, CoCo

When I look at this room and see all of the special touches that make the room feel so special I can only imagine the comfort anyone would feel sleeping there. My favorites are the gorgeous bed and the crown!
I can’t wait to see the bathroom:)
Thank you, Maria! That bed crown totally gave us a fit but I don’t think the room would look the same without it. It’s sort of a cozy statement maker the minute you open the door. Even though it was touch and go there for a while I’m thrilled it all worked out in the end. Thanks for being such a sweet cheerleader along the way. It meant so much! Big hugs, CoCo
Love every single thing about this room. Its amazing and I think the pink is absolutely perfect!
Thank you bunches, LiLi! I’m so thankful the lady at Lowes hung in there with us as we worked to get the perfect shade of blushy pink. I definitely want to paint every room that color now 😂 Big hugs and safe travels, CoCo
Such a beautiful space…the bed looks like sleep would be a dream. I love all of your personal touches and design choices! So lovely!
Thank you so much, Linda! It was definitely a wild ride trying to put it all together so I’m super thankful we were able to push through and finish it. Every time I walk into the space now I think about all the late nights and early mornings and how it was totally worth it 🙂 Hope your summer has been a happy one! Big hugs, CoCo
That 4th time was the charm! It’s such a beautiful shade of blush, and your attention to detail makes this space perfect!
I really appreciate it, Libbie, thank you so much! Hope your day has been a fun one, CoCo
Oh my gosh! Love the crown and I am glad you went with a patterned curtain. Would love to be a guest here!
Thank you, Marie! It’s so hard to believe I almost went with a plain curtain. I definitely don’t think it would have looked as pretty either. I’m so thankful for the mix-up because it totally forced us to pivot in the best possible way. Hope your week has been a fun one, CoCo PS: You’re welcome any time!
Love this room and the color is just perfect.
Thanks so much! I really appreciate it!
I’ve spent the morning catching up and it is always a delight to spend time here. You’re a true inspiration and showed us that many challenges may come up when doing a remodel but don’t get discouraged. The room is just lovely and any guest would be thrilled to spend a night in this room. As a matter of fact, it might be hard to get them to leave.
Such sweet and kind words, Karen, thank you so much! It’s hard to believe we went through so many crazy things during the One Room Challenge but I’m always thankful for the lessons we learn along the way. It’s definitely going to be exciting to welcome overnight guests into our home again. I swear it’s been way too long! Hope your week has been peace-filled, CoCo

I love everything about this room, CoCo. Can I be your first guest ??? Thank you for sharing at Party In Your PJ’s.
Of course, you can, Ann! Thanks so much for your kind words and for always hosting such a fun party. Hugs, CoCo
Love the quite colors of soft pink and grey CoCo. You put together a lovely room that’s so soothing.
I’ve had the decorating with white book for years and refer to it when I want to clear my decorators mind and go for cleaner look in a room.
Visiting from Life and Linda

Thank you, Rachelle! It was a wild ride at times but I’m excited about the way it all came together. Decorating with White (the original version) is one of my all-time favorite books. It always feels so clean and classic no matter what the season. Hope your week is a fun one, CoCo
CoCo this room is gorgeous and so well put together. You are so smart to use the duvet covers for the crown curtains. It looks like it was meant to be! I love every detail, especially the soft colors and the patina on the bed. Swoon worthy! Look for your post to be featured this week at our Tuesday Turn About Link Party!
Thanks so much for your sweet and kind words, Michelle, I really appreciate it. There were definitely parts of this project that gave us a major fit but I’m thankful we stuck with it and have a guest room we can enjoy now. It was worth it all 🙌 Sending you lots of hugs and thank yous, CoCo
That bed is to die for. And I transformed that same dresser (love it!) and use it in our foyer as a buffet table. Gorgeous mirror as well. Thanks for sharing at Vintage Charm! xo Kathleen
Thanks so much, Kathleen, I really appreciate it. We had SO many ups and downs but I’m thankful for the way it all came together. It was all totally worth it. Sending you hugs for a happy week, CoCo
Wow! I absolutely love your guest bedroom. It’s gorgeous. I don’t see one thing I don’t love. You pulled it together so well. I have to go back through the photos again. Definitely pinning this! Thanks for sharing. I’m visiting from Linda’s blog. Congratulations on the feature. xx
Thank you so much, Nancy, I really appreciate it! That entire project was such a labor of love. We definitely hit a lot of bumps in the road along the way but I’m grateful for the space every day. Hope your summer has been filled with all good thing, CoCo
CoCo,
You (and your helpers) did a wonderful job with your guest bedroom makeover. I keep hearing everywhere that shipping delays are causing major problems for people. Plus shipping costs are skyrocketing for wholesale companies. I order from wholesalers in January and February for my annual French Country Christmas Event and this year every wholesaler has announced shipping increases will be added to every order. Now I am keeping my fingers crossed that the goods will actually ship in time for Christmas.
Love all the details and so happy for you that you managed to get a bed crown you wanted!
Judith
I really appreciate it, Judith, thank you so much! The guest bedroom makeover was definitely a labor of love for all of us. I am shocked at the amount shipping expenses have gone up. One of my girlfriends said her shipping container costs have gone up 223% since the pandemic began. I seriously can’t even imagine. I know your French Country Christmas event is always a huge deal so I’ll be sending lots of hugs and prayers your way things arrive on time. I just attended a Christmas in July event a few hours south of here and could not get over all the red and green. They had some beautiful things but I’d take your gorgeous French blues, pinks, creams, and champagnes any day of the week 🙂 Big hugs, CoCo
Your bedroom makeover is stunning. I love the bedding and the pink walls.
Hugs,
Kippi
I really appreciate it, Kippi, thank you so much. The pink walls definitely felt like a risk but I’m so thankful for the way they turned out. I could use that sweet shade of blushy pink any day of the week. Hope your weekend has been a fun one, CoCo
It might have been a difficult challenge room CoCo, but you absolutely nailed it sweetie.
It’s a dream room with so many gorgeous elements.
Thank you for sharing it at Create, Bake, Grow & Gather this week. I’m delighted to be featuring your ORC bedroom makeover at the party this week and pinning too.
Hugs,
Kerryanne
Thank you so much, Kerryanne, I really appreciate your sweet and kind words! I’m so thankful we stuck with it even though it was definitely a wild ride throughout the 8 weeks. Every time I walk into that space and take in all that pink I fall in love all over again 😍 Sending you hugs and thank yous, CoCo
CoCo, this bedroom is beyond gorgeous! I love that you used pink as your accent color – I’m happy to see color popping back into farmhouse style and I love how you used pink touches throughout the room. Thank you so much for sharing it with us at Farmhouse Friday – we’re featuring you at tomorrow’s party!
You guys are so sweet, thank you! I really appreciate it. I literally waffled over the pink for almost a year – no playing. Now that it’s in there I have no idea what too me so long and I kinda want to add all sorts of pink around the house now 😂 It definitely gave the entire space fresh life. Sending you big hugs and thank yous, CoCo
CoCo, this is just stunning! I love everything about the room. Great job.
I so appreciate it, Rachel, thank you so much! I was definitely starting to wonder if we were ever going to get it finished because of all the delays but I’m thankful we stayed the course and have a room we love now. Hope your weekend has been a special one, CoCo
I absolutely love those nightstands, the whole room looks stunning!
Thanks so much, Josiah, I really appreciate it! Hope your week has been a fun one so far, CoCo
It turned out gorgeous! Love your color scheme and that bed crown looks amazing! This is a stunning makeover!

I really appreciate it, Meagan, thank you so much. It’s definitely one of our favorite places to relax and unwind. Hope your week has been a happy one, CoCo
What a stunning room makeover CoCo! Despite your obstacles, you were able to knock it out of the park. I rather love the fabric you used with the crown, I do not think a plain fabric would have completed your look the same way this turned out. Perfection! So many beautiful details coming together all at once to create the perfect guest room. You sure are lucky to have so many helping in your corner.
This room is so beautiful, CoCo. So many pretty items to swoon over! Well done!
Coco, it looks so beautiful! I would love to stay in this beautiful space. Have a wonderful week and thank you for walks sharing love, light and beautiful spaces.
Boy do I love this! If I stayed in this room, I might never leave! Huge belated congratulations on a beautiful room!
