Fall Centerpiece in the Dining Room

Today, we’re sharing our Fall centerpiece in the dining room!

Just like the DIY Fall Centerpiece, I was this close to not sharing last year, I was totally debating whether or not our Fall centerpiece in the dining room might be too simple a process to share this year.

Then I thought about our weekend.

Part of it was spent at the soccer fields, part of it was spent celebrating a milestone birthday,  part of it was spent watching the tropics and the gulf, part of it was spent troubleshooting our house project challenges and part of it was spent snuggled up with a cup of hot cider and a decorating book.

We had lots of memory-making fun along the way, but it was definitely packed. And I know so many of you are trying to balance a full life this time of year too.

Now more than ever, we’re committed to celebrating the small wins, the rituals that give our days a sense of normalcy, and making things festive throughout the Fall season.

We’re also committed to finding simple ways to make the ordinary feel extraordinary without a lot of fuss or extra effort.

Given you can see our dining room as soon as you walk through the front door, we wanted the space to honor the change of season, but we didn’t want the table to feel set with all our dishes out.

Our solution was to create a quick and easy dough bowl centerpiece in the dining room that celebrated all the things we love most about Fall with items that were readily available at the craft store.

And it’s something you could easily do at your house too.  Even if you don’t have a dough bowl.

I promise it’s that easy!

Here’s a look at how you can make a Fall centerpiece in the dining room too…

Fall Centerpiece Supplies:

  • Dough Bowl (a basket, box or tray could also be used)
  • Wreath, Flowers, & Greenery of your choice (we used a wreath, floral stems, and floral picks)
  • Floral/Wire Cutters (optional)
  • Books (the number of books you need will depend on the length and depth of your dough bowl)
  • Pumpkin (or two depending on the size of your dough bowl/container)

Fall Centerpiece Steps:

Gather your supplies. Just a heads up, we’re using this Fall centerpiece in the dining room, but the light is better in the breakfast nook.

So, I’m going to assemble it there and then carry it to the dining room which should explain the different picture locations ?

Lay your dough bowl flat.  Then add a stack of books to the middle of the bowl.

This is a large dough bowl, so I used 3 books total.  The books will help raise the height of the pumpkin you’ll be using in the middle of this centerpiece. It will also help to keep the pumpkin more stable too.

Place a medium to large size wreath directly over books and onto the dough bowl.

The secret to making this Fall centerpiece in the dining room so easy is that your wreath should cover the majority of the dough bowl.

Once the wreath is in place, begin tucking greenery stems at each corner. We used about 6 stems total.

If you’re using wire or floral cutters use caution and care as cutters will be sharp.

Once you have your greenery stems in place, start filling in the gaps with floral stems and picks.

Try to vary the height and the color of the flowers so your arrangement feels festive yet natural.

Don’t forget to add a bit of texture too!

After you have the florals arranged the way you want them, place your pumpkin on top of the covered books. It should easily snuggle into the center of the wreath.

Embellish your pumpkin with a piece of ribbon if you like.

Depending on the size of your dough bowl, you can go big and cover every extra inch with flowers or take a more relaxed approach.  It’s honestly up to you.

Keep in mind if you don’t have a dough bowl, you can also use this same technique with a box, tray, or even a basket.

I had a few greenery stems left over so I also added them our dining room hutch.

But again, you can celebrate Fall in your house as much or as little as you want. Here’s a look at the hutch without the extra greenery.

Honestly, it doesn’t matter if you’re working from home, homeschooling, spending your weekends at the soccer fields, watching the tropics, troubleshooting home project challenges, or find yourself snuggled up with a cup of cider and a decorating book there’s still plenty of time to make the season feel special.

There’s also plenty of time to find simple ways to make the ordinary feel extraordinary without a lot of fuss or extra effort. So, surround yourself with things that give you joy and make your heart happy this Fall!
