Spring Flowers Inspired Tablescape & Blog Hop

Cottage living on the island…
I live on a tiny island in Florida where we normally have such mild winters, you can barely tell the difference between winter and spring.
That said, early this morning I opened the back door to let our sweet dog out and was immediately inundated with the smell of salty marsh and the sounds of birds chirping.
And it was an instant reminder of just how lucky we are to enjoy such a special place.
Decorating for the seasons…
When it comes to decorating for the seasons, we try to take our cues from nature and to reuse as many of our existing home décor items as we can.
This island cottage has very little storage space which means we’re constantly trying to come up with creative ways to make our home feel festive.
I do have a weakness for ironstone, vintage china, linens and tarnished trophies though. And when it comes to decorating, I do my best to make sure each piece can serve double duty somehow.
Spring is one of our favorite seasons and while we have horrible allergies, we’re always inspired by spring flowers.
I seriously have to hold myself back from making our home look like we live in a flower shop on the daily ?
Creating a Spring flowers inspired tablescape…
I was thinking about how spring brings a sense of hope and renewal when I was putting together this spring flowers inspired tablescape. So, I started with a runner of moss,
then added thrifted chargers I painted in Primitive by Americana Décor Chalky Paint and aged with Annie Sloan Dark Paste Wax.
On top of the charger is a basic white plate, layered with a vintage Haviland luncheon plate.
To keep a cottage feel, I added a thrifted napkin trimmed with lace,
tied with a blush pink ribbon and DIY Speckled Eggs which are actually pecans from my family’s pecan grove.
Making everything super budget friendly too.
For the centerpiece, I created a DIY European Farmhouse Cake Stand also from thrifted pieces and used a wooden bunny we picked up from Hobby Lobby last year.
Having just the bunny centerpiece looked a bit sparse on our breakfast nook table, so I decided to add a few arrangements in ironstone too.
I try to collect flowers from seasonal sales throughout the year and keep a tight color palette of whites, off whites and blush colors.
That way, they’re easy to mix and match no matter what the holiday or time of year.
Celebrating Spring at home…
Our breakfast nook overlooks the back patio, so there is a constant stream of sunlight on the table during the day.
In early spring we’re able to open all the windows and back door to enjoy the coastal breezes which always feels really good.
I tell ya, there is just something about fresh air and sunshine that makes everything better ?
Our home is an open floor plan, so the breakfast nook is open to the living room, the kitchen, the dining room and the entry too.
Now that we’re working from home a lot more, our coffee station has become such a bright spot.
And in light of everything that’s going on with the Coronavirus COVID-19, I think we could all use more bright spots in our day.
I know this probably isn’t how you planned to celebrate your spring season; we feel the same way. But I think we’ve all be given an opportunity to embrace our homes as a place of respite and comfort like we’ve never had before.
So, while I’m going to miss our annual trip to the garden show, picking up scones from the farmers market on the weekends and treasuring hunting in my favorite shops downtown, I fully plan to welcome the season into our home with intention and gratitude.
And I hope you’ll do the same.

This is a beautiful post and loved what you said at the end. So true this isn’t what was planned but I’m taking time painting and making our home pretty gor the season. We will get through this as a whole.
Love using soft colored flowers with ironstone too. It’s a wonderful marriage.

Oh my goodness, Coco–this is a stunning spring table! I absolutely love that you used those ironstone soup tureens for your floral arrangements. That’s a brilliant idea that I’m filing away for later!!
