If you’re coming over from Paula’s blog, Sweet Pea, welcome, we’re thrilled to have you here. Paula is always so creative no matter what the season. I swear her family would run a museum they have so many cool pieces of family history that have been passed down from generation to generation.
One of my favorite things about following a variety of fashion and decorating trends is seeing which ones have staying power.
It seems like everyone was decorating with chalkboards a few years ago. They were all over magazines, in coffeehouses, big box stores, and featured on popular farmhouse-style blogs as well.
While their appeal might have waned just a bit, chalkboards are one of those functional items that can be used in a lot of different ways no matter what the season or current trend.
Here’s a look at 10 simple chalkboard decorating ideas to try this season…
Fall Cider Bar
Creating a Fall Cider Bar is something we look forward to each Fall.
Last year, we used a chalkboard as a backdrop to the wall basket arrangement we made with hydrangeas and apples. While the flowers were relatively simple, it was a fun way to welcome the season and a budget-friendly decorating idea too.
Indoor Breakfast Bar
Another thing we look forward to each Fall season is creating an indoor breakfast far with spice cake donuts.
It’s one of my favorite mornings because we intentionally linger over breakfast then head out to find mums for our Fall front porch or visit the pumpkin patch with the littles.
Outdoor Dessert Bar
On the nights we’re able to cozy up around the fire pit, we try to have an outdoor dessert bar.
Most of the time, we let the food take center stage then add a festive feel by decorating the chalkboard with a seasonally inspired wreath.
Simple Chalkboard Decorating Ideas: Fall Mantel
Another super-easy way to decorate for Fall is by layering a wreath over a chalkboard to create a seasonal mantel.
As you can see, we used the same wreath as we used in the breakfast nook. Yet it feels completely different surrounded by pumpkins in the living room than it did as part of our breakfast bar.
DIY Chalkboard Cheese Labels
We always have lots of different nibbles while we’re at the cabin and the minute I saw these Fall inspired wooden place cards at a big box craft supply store, I knew they would be perfect to DIY as mini chalkboard cheese labels.
They’re another really easy chalkboard decorating idea that didn’t take long to make at all!
Refrigerator Basket Labels
Speaking of labels, we use these small chalkboards to help keep our refrigerator organized.
The chalkboards are a great size for most baskets and can easily be changed with a standard piece of chalk or a chalk pen.
Pantry Organization
Another utilitarian way to decorate with chalkboards is in the pantry. You can use it to help keep your grocery list organized, weekly menu list, or even a simple chore chart.
Outdoor Menu Board
I had to dig deep into the archives for this one given we wound up selling these menu boards in our antique booths back in the day, but the idea is just too easy not to share.
We used chalkboard paint on the top portion of this old door to create an outdoor menu board several years ago.
While I wouldn’t leave it outside full time because of the weather elements, it’s another chalkboard decorating idea you can use in multiple seasons to help make things festive.
Simple Chalkboard Decorating Ideas: Welcome Sign
We made this welcome sign for my childhood home, Loblolly Manor, from an old mirror.
It was simple to repurpose and another piece we use throughout the year. Especially for the holidays!
Make a Chalkboard from a Piece of Old Art
I loved the chalkboard welcome sign we used at Loblolly so much I decided to make a chalkboard from a piece of old art.
The massed produced artwork wasn’t really my style, but I loved the size and detail on the gold frame immediately.
It’s another budget-friendly chalkboard decorating idea that’s easy to do and I use it in The Crowned Goat Cottage to help keep track of upcoming activities.
Up next on the Lifestyle of Love Blog Hop is Lora from Create and Ponder. She’s another super creative lady and someone I’m dying to go shopping with one day.
Once you’re finished there, be sure to check out all the other simple chalkboard decorating ideas these fabulous ladies are sharing!
Until next time, I’ll see you on Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest. Many blessings,
CoCo
I can’t pick a favorite from the ten chalkboard ideas that you shared. I will say that seeing your cider bar makes me want to go to a local orchard to pick apples and buy some cider.
It was so much fun to put that Fall Cider Bar together, Paula, and it was super easy too. I can definitely see you picking apples and whipping up all sorts of goodies this season. Hope you’ve had a great weekend so far. Give that sweet Sherman a hug from us, CoCo
Okay, so now I want a Menu Door! I love this idea and will enjoy changing it out. I have a door that has a sign on it but turning it into a chalkboard door is next on my list! Thank you for sharing all of the amazing ideas and for joining in. I always look forward to your posts. Pinned

I love the classic look of the wreaths and the basket of apples on the chalkboards. The texture makes such a great backdrop for everything! But the pic of the inside of your frig…whoa, I’m having some major “I’m not worthy” thoughts going through my head with that organization! amazing! Always love to see your beautifully styled home, CoCo:)
ha ha you are so funny, Lora! I’m constantly looking for ways to keep the refrigerator organized because it drives me crazy to waste food so we eat a lot of leftovers. Sometimes I feel like it’s a daily Tetris type puzzle and I say “what the what” a lot 🤣 Sending you hugs. It’s always fun hopping with you sweet friend, CoCo

Oh my goodness, CoCo! I’ve always loved chalkboards and you’ve shared so many wonderful ideas on how to use them. I made several boards for our old home, but they’re still in storage because I wasn’t sure I needed them in our rental. Now you’ve inspired me to re-think that.
You’re so sweet, Christine, thank you! I know they were really popular back in the day and have been replaced by other things like letterboards now. But we still use our chalkboards all the time. They’re such a practical classic, I don’t think they’ll ever really go out style. Can’t wait to see all the good things you have cooked up for your new home, CoCo
