Tips for Shopping Yard Sales and Our Latest Finds
We’re sharing our favorite tips for shopping yard sales and our latest finds from the treasure trail today!
Recently, I had the chance to spend some uninterrupted time with my parents at Bliss Barracks.
Both of their schedules really start to pick up once the Fall season begins so it was fun to squeeze in some time with them before the hustle and bustle of the holidays kick in.
Tips for Shpping Yard Sales and Our Latest Finds From Renningers…
While I was visiting, my Mom and I decided to treasure hunt at Renninger’s in Mount Dora, Florida. We’ve been there many times and it’s one of our favorite places to shop!
A few years ago, they added yard sale events to their summer schedule in June, July, August and September in addition to the Extravaganza held in Novemeber, January and February which is always fun.
While the summer yard sales are not as big as the Extravaganza events, it’s always exciting to look for goodies.
Truthfully, we never really know what to expect because it’s scorching hot down here right now. So, sometimes there are 50 or more outdoor vendors and sometimes there are a lot less.
This year, they had a ton of Christmas in July sales and we had a great time!
My Mom and I have been trying purge and organize our homes lately so we tried to select each item with care since we weren’t really looking for anything specific. .
But you guys know how it goes when you’re not looking for anything specific though, right? You wind up finding a few things you can’t live without.
Our Latest Finds…
I need a few more pieces of ironstone for The Crowned Goat Cottage so I was super excited to find this ironstone tureen…
…and this piece of brown and white transferware.
In that same booth, I found a set of antlers I couldn’t live without.
As well as, several pieces of vintage material.
It almost looks like cross stitch fabric but I would love to find a way to use it for napkins or as the base for Christmas cones.
It’s definitely going to need some fray away first though!
While I was shopping one end of the booth, my Mom was finding all sorts of fun goodies at the other end.
Like this beautiful hand monogrammed hand towel for Bliss Barracks...
…and this polo ball that was a steal for $1!
Christmas in July Latest Finds…
Speaking of steals, the steal of the day was probably the huge table of vintage and store-bought ornaments that were 4 for a $1.
Digging through all the ornaments was so much fun!
Truthfully, it was such a great surprise so many vendors had Christmas and holiday goodies for sale.
Since we were shopping “off-season” the prices were amazing and it definitely made me realize how much you can save by shopping that way.
We found these tiny trees for $1 each...
…these beautifully beaded snowflake ornaments…
…and this gray tree which has almost has a snowy sort of feel.
My Mom spotted this blanket and I fell in love immediately.
It’s going to be perfect to use during the holidays, as will, this super cool crown.
She also found this awesome easel!
We found this amazing watercolor in a completely different booth.
Art like this is a really easy way to keep things festive throughout the year without feeling like you have to reinvent the wheel and redcorate every season.
A Few of Our Favorite Tips for Shopping Yard Sales…
- Be sure to stay hydrated while you’re shopping and pack a cooler with ice cold drinks if you can.
- Pack healthy snacks as you never know what food options will be available. Especially if you’re shopping in small towns or off the beaten path.
- Wear comfortable clothes and shoes.
- Don’t forget to apply sunscreen and to wear a hat and sunglasses. Sun protection is key!
- Remember to pack tissues, hand sanitizer, flush-able wipes and moist towelettes as sometimes portable potties are your only bathroom option.
- Make sure you travel with a market tote, bag or wagon that will be comfortable yet sturdy enough to hold your treasures.
- Be sure to pack paper and bubble wrap for small items and blankets to protect larger items.
- Finally, cash is king! Vendors are slowly starting to accept credit cards but for the most part, they still prefer cash.
I can’t say we buy something at every yard sale or outdoor event, but the hunt is definitely what keeps us going back month after month.
It’s so much fun and we always come home with lots of inspiration too!
I hope these tips for shopping yard sales and our latest finds have helped! What types of goodies have you guys found at a yard sale or on the treasure trail lately?
We’re always interested to see what you’re picking up! Until next time, I’ll see you on Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest.

Thanks so much, Deb! We had a great time shopping together and couldn’t believe all the Christmas stuff they had out this year. That’s probably my favorite part of treasure hunting anyway though, you never know what you’re going to find 😍 Hope your day is a special one, CoCo
Great tips CoCo. You found great pieces. Love the antlers. The tureen is gorgeous too. Love the lines.
Okay, you know I love crowns and can’t wait to see how you use it.
Great shopping. Vendors are thrilled they can make money again.
Thank you bunches, Cindy! It was so nice to be able to get out and about again. All the vendors were in a great mood too so you know they were happy to have paying customers. They had lots of great stuff this time and we were all kinds of excited to bring a few new pieces home. Especially, all the holiday goodies. It just made me that much more excited for Christmas! I really appreciate it, Rachel, thank you so much. It’s always fun to treasure hunt and scope out new goodies. Hugs, CoCo
I imagine the Christmas shopping would mean a better deal but I just can’t do it. :/
Love all of your new treasures. Moms too! Y’all found some fantastic goodies. Quick question though. Is that an ornament with naked kids playing in a circle? Hmmm.
ha ha I know exactly what you mean, Cindy! It was SO hot while we were shopping. We had to find some shade several times because it was totally bananas out there but we still had a great time treasure hunting. This is the first time we’ve ever seen so much Christmas but a lot of the vendors said they had gotten the holiday items from people who had closed their shops during the pandemic and were looking to offload extra inventory. Hope you’re staying nice and cool in Texas. Big hugs, CoCo PS: It’s crazy what they allow angels to wear now days isn’t it?
I loved being able to see all of your amazing finds. That crown really was extra spectacular and I loved the super cute ironstone tureen you picked up!
Thank you bunches, Heidi! Treasure hunting has always been one of our favorite things to do and it was fun to be able to find so many things this trip. Especially, all the Christmas goodies. My Mom has some extra special plans for Loblolly this year so I’m excited to see how it all comes together. Hope your day is a fun one, CoCo
Great post, CoCo! We’re headed to a big outdoor thrift and flea market here in Iowa tomorrow, so your post was very timely! Great finds!
Niky @ The House on Silverado
That is so exciting, Niky! I can’t wait to see what you guys bring home. It’s always fun to treasure hunt. Safe travels and have the best time, CoCo
Great haul CoCo! That ironstone soup tureen stopped me in my tracks. I’ve never seen one so pretty!
Thank you, Michelle! I SWORE I was not going to bring anything home because we’re trying to organize all the things (which always makes you realize how much stuff you REALLY have) but the minute I saw that piece I fell in love and couldn’t leave it behind. Famous last words are the best that way 😍 Hope your weekend is filled with all good things! Hugs, CoCo
