Spring Flowers Home Tour
We’re sharing our Spring Flowers Home Tour today as part of a fun spring inspiration blog hop hosted by the always sweet and creative Cindy from Cloches and Lavender and Terrie from Decorate and More with Tip.

Truth be told, I was this close to not sharing our spring home tour this year.
The only thing that kept me in the game was not wanting to let my sweet blog friends down.
And while I’ve never met any of them in person, I’ve had enough correspondence with them to know they’re fabulous ladies.
Earlier this month, we unexpectedly welcomed sweet Piper into our family. She’s a two-year-old Jack Russell Terrier (JRT) my baby sister found in foster care while we were out of town.
We had very little information to go on and given we had never actually met Piper in person, we basically got her sight unseen save for a few photos.
She’s our third JRT to date, so we know the breed well.
But as you’re well aware, dogs like people, have their own personalities and quirks.
Especially, rescues.
We’re still getting to know each other so I don’t want to give Piper a bad rap.
Honestly, I never met her original owner or her foster parents either so I can’t really speak about her life before she arrived on this tiny little island.
The blessing is she came potty trained, is mostly treat motivated, and is crazy-crazy smart.
That said, she has absolutely turned our lives inside out and upside down.
I’m pretty sure I’ve told my bestie S at least a hundred times I was going to have to give up blogging to be a full-time dog mom because she is so much work.
99% of the photos I took for the spring flowers home tour did not even turn out.
Almost all of them had a comet-like furry white streak doting their landscape.
In the midst of creating spring vignettes around the house and putting together flower arrangements half my avocado toast was stolen, 3 bunnies broken, a recently hung picture for our breakfast nook knocked off the wall, teeth marks on our decorative eggs, ribbons pulled off baskets, AN ENTIRE SIM CARD containing 3 years’ worth of photos that have no backup – destroyed, the base of one of the gutters got ripped off during a “lizard safari,” the bottoms of most all our blinds and window sills have been scratched or damaged, toys are currently scattered all over the floor, we can no longer open the front or back doors, run the washing machine or watch tv without a major freak out, and I’ve gotten into bed nearly every night finding rouge dog bones between the sheets and pillows.
To date, Piper has not napped longer than 15 minutes – total – during the day.
She reluctantly sleeps in her crate at night and usually wakes up around 230 am, 430 am, and then again at 630 am every morning wild and ready to go.
It’s only been a few weeks, but she seems to have multiple witching hours, gets the zoomies a lot, and struggles to relax because she is constantly on guard.
She wants to trust us SO bad…she’s just can’t let herself do it yet…and that’s ok.
There’s plenty of time to show her she’s in a loving and grateful pack ?
While I know it’s not exactly the same, I’ve found a deeper appreciation for parents with new babies, parents trying to work and home school simultaneously, parents who brought home pandemic puppies, and caregivers who faithfully rise and shine daily to show up for their loved ones and the people in their community too.
If you’re one of those people, hero status does not even begin to convey your superpowers adequately.
As hard as these things are to deal with right now, I know Piper is meant to be ours.
She’s already teaching us how to be more effective communicators, how to love, trust and forgive well, how to make space for others with grace, how to plan more efficiently while leaving lots of white space for mess-ups, to put away things immediately, and how to decorate around mischievous paws and curious teeth too.
I know the pandemic caused all of us to see our homes and the loved ones in it, in a completely different way.
Some of you cleaned and organized. While others painted and redecorated. Some of you rearranged entire rooms and stopped putting off projects that had been on your to-do list far too long.
Despite a difficult season, I think we’ve all been offered the opportunity to see our homes in a fresh way. And to feel a sense of gratitude for the safe shelter we might not have expressed before.
My hope this spring as we reclaim a sense of normality and begin inviting friends, furry friends, and loved ones into our homes again is that we’ll leave plenty of space for the perfectly imperfect moments of life.
Because there’s just something about opening the door to your home no matter what state it’s in and realizing you love where you live.

I like your vintage and spring decor. Is that some kind of spring holding the mail? So creative! I have an open concept kitchen and living/dining too. It is motivation to keep the dishes clean and counter tops cleared. 🙂
Thank you so much Emily! Yes, it’s some sort of spring but I don’t know if it came from a mattress or something else. They were in a rusty/crusty box of stuff I picked up one day. You are so right about the dishes. If I’m ever in a pinch I immediately put the dishes in the sink with hot sudsy water and let them soak 🙂 Hope you have a happy day, Coco

Thank you Candice! Having the open floor plan include the kitchen is nice especially when you have people over because it makes it really easy to bring food over or refill drinks. I hope things are settling down a bit with Piper, sounds very familiar. My two crazy dogs are 8 and 11 and honestly I can’t imagine training another pet right now, I still have to watch these two like a hawk. Your home is so beautiful!
Goodness Betsy, you definitely know what we’re going through right now. It’s been quite an adventure learning to decorate with things that can’t be easily picked up, torn down, or jumped upon. I don’t know if our Easter decor will ever be the same…I’m already rethinking the pumpkins for Fall and the pinecones for Christmas now too ? Hope your spring season is a fun one! Oh how I understand completely how you feel! We unexpectedly have our grand dog, a one year old blood hound, living with us and I get so incredibly frustrated. I cannot keep the house clean, and my time is no longer my time. Yes this is incredibly frustrating, however she is a wonderful dog so I clean and blog when I can:)
With that said, I am so glad you did not cancel your spring home tour as your home is absolutely lovely. You obviously have a knack for creating beauty and comfort.

It’s been a long time since we’ve had a puppy much less a mischievous one so I can completely relate to all the changes you’ve had in welcoming your grand dog into your home too. We were SO close to getting her on a schedule/routine but then the time changed and she has regressed ever since. Like your sweet grand dog, Piper is a cutie pie, so we’re definitely willing to work around whatever she needs. I just wish she could talk and tell us sometimes ? CoCo, your home is swoon worthy! Reading everything that is going on at your house, I don’t know how you do it. Every photograph is gorgeous! All of your floral creations and vignettes are so pretty. Miss Piper is so blessed to have you as her new mommy. Hopefully, she will settle down and realize she is in a happy and safe place. We have a new puppy here, too. I never in a million years thought we’d welcome Piper after such heartbreak but one look at her sweet face is all it took ? Oh Coco, What a wild and crazy time you have had with little Piper. I am so sorry for all of the destruction she has brought, but I understand the love and challenge of adjustment that is coming. I am so happy you joined in the hop, though! You have everything decorated so nicely for spring and Easter! I love all of the soft pastel florals and the addition of the bunnies in among the flowers is a nice nod to the Easter holiday! Hang in there, which I know you will, with Piper! Yes, this has been a trying time for all of us and hopefully we are all coming out of it. We have been without a dog for nearly ten years now and will pick up a new standard poodle puppy on April 24th. This will be the first time we are getting a dog that isn’t a terrier, so this will be different for us. It is always a joy to hop with you, and I really need to stop by more often!

All three of our dogs were very close in age and passed away within a few years of each other. I never expected to get another dog but our home just felt so empty without the pitter-patter of their little feet. Despite being out of town the minute we saw Piper we knew it was a heart-melting moment and she’s kept us on our toes ever since. While my decorating style will probably get really simple from this point forward, we’re happy to take on the challenge and give her whatever she needs to be comfortable. You have a very beautiful home! We adopted a puppyish dog about 4 or 5 years ago and even though he was potty trained he would go pee in the house. Sometimes while you were looking! I never had a dog do that. My husband and I both worked but last year when I got sick and was home all day and he had my attention, he stopped going potty in the house. It is the darndest thing figuring those guys out! She will come around. I love how you compared kids and her because that is how I felt at the time. We now have an older dog and I get up every 4 hours to let him out so he doesn’t go in the house. What a cycle. Hugs.
That is so crazy, Cheryl! I’ve never heard of that either. I’ve only been through potty training season once and goodness gracious it was tough. But honestly, so was taking care of our senior dogs too. They had completely different needs but their bathroom breaks were very similar to the puppies in that had to be on schedule like clockwork. I’m so thankful I’m able to work from home now to better keep an eye on things and it sounds like your sweet pups are lucky to have you at home more too. Hugs and happy spring, CoCo

YES, YES, YES! It’s totally bananas how out of practice I feel even after having had 3 other dogs, Linda. She is definitely feisty like my first JRT but she communicates WAY more than any other dog we’ve ever had. Plus she has a ton of quirks we’re getting used to as well. Dogs bring out the best in us! We’re dog people, always have been. Think I’ve had a dog most of my life. My husband and I are on our second Wheaten Terrier. I’ve always wanted a JRT too! Terriers are super smart for sure. Oh and you’re spring home is LOVELY! xo Kathleen

That is so funny, Rebecca, and totally true ? I think we’ve figured out she has a 60-120 minute wild woman cycle, and then she’s down for the count at least 15 minutes lol. She’s such a cutie pie but she is definitely a stinker. I’m so thankful I have plenty of experience with JRTs because she has been a handful these past few weeks. They do, Lynne! Piper was such a little wild thing when we got her. It’s taken almost a year to gain her trust and there are still sometimes we find her jumping on the tables to bark at squirrels or chewing on the blinds. But she’s totally worth all the effort, even on the days it’s really hard. I know she’s in a loving enviroment now and has been rescued for life. Sending you and your pup lots of hugs today, CoCo

Your home is lovely, CoCo! I feel for you with little Piper. Yoda was A MESS emotionally — peeing everywhere, crying, scratching doors when we were gone to school, biting the kids from fear of not being fed. He bit me and my husband, too. We worked with him for a long time – 10 years – before he was fully calm and fully trusted we would feed him. He still likes having us around him when he eats, because he feels protected. This is partly how I came to work with emotionally disturbed kids at school is because of his behaviors. But I think Piper will calm down within the year as she realizes your routines, that you like your things to not be eated/chewed, and she gets good praise for any positive thing she does. As you already know. 🙂
My son and DIL, whom I was just visiting this weekend in South Dakota (for our grandson’s 2nd birthday) have a dog whom they got just after they married, but the same week they moved into a new apartment, had just graduated from college (I was there for this). We went to dinner and to Walmart for groceries, gone about 1 1/2 hrs. and when we returned, all the mini blinds in the apartment were bent and destroyed. Needless to say, Luna was crated from then on. My only recommendation is take her on long walks to get some of her energy out, and several times a day, if you can. She’s going to be a great dog!!!

Thank you so much for all your encouragement, Barb, I really appreciate it and definitely need it. Piper wants to be a good girl but she’s just not there yet. She is learning to trust us more and more every day which is promising! I know she’ll get there in time but goodness she is a wild lady. We crate her at night and when we leave the house but the minute she sees a squirrel, bird, or turtle outside she loses her mind and does not know how to self soothe. Needless to say, we only have one set of blinds left that haven’t been destroyed. She jumps on all the cabinets when we’re trying to cook and cannot stand when we turn the lights in the kitchen on. Do you know how hard it is to cook without lights? 😂 Despite her wild lady ways, I know she can’t help that she was abused so we’re just going to love her through it.
