Master Bedroom Refresh at Bliss Barracks

Today, we’re sharing the Master Bedroom Refresh at Bliss Barracks!

This space is one I usually only share during the holidays.  But recently I had the chance to spend an extra long weekend with my parents and catch up on all the changes they’ve been making around the house.

Like many of us, they have been hard at work painting and updating their primary home, Bliss Barracks, during the pandemic.

My parents started transitioning most of the rooms from a very traditional color palette of reds, blacks and camels to blues, greens and whites last Fall and have steadily been working to make changes this year as well.

As with most projects, it’s taken a while because they are doing a lot of the work themselves.  Things are finally coming together though and I’m hopeful they’ll be able to finish the entire house this year.

In addition to giving each room a brand-new coat of Benjamin Moore’s Dove White, we’ve also been refreshing the linens, artwork and accessories too.

Their style is very traditional so we’ve been working around a lot of dark furniture pieces they’ve had for years.

Thankfully, most of it was in great shape which made the transition super easy.

One of the last pieces we needed to find for the master bedroom refresh was a coffee table for the seating area.

We haven’t really been able to treasure hunt at all this year because of the pandemic.

But recently we had the chance to attend an outdoor vintage event and happened upon the perfect piece for $15.  We could not believe it!

My Mom has been collecting blue and white pieces for months now.   These urns have been one of her favorite finds to date.

The preserved boxwood balls on top helped to pull in a bit of greenery and texture.

The shelves and plates helped to add even more color to their traditional palette.

In addition to collecting equestrian inspired finds,

my Mom also loves dogs,

trophies, tarnished silver and old books. She has a fabulous eye and always spots unique finds other people would pass over!

This year, my parents will celebrate 50 years of marriage. While we’ve moved around a lot as a military family, their heirloom bedroom suite has been a staple.

Their bed is huge and we’ve snuggled up here to read, nap and girl talk more times than I can count.

Their desk area is always filled with vintage finds and goodies from various trips.  And it’s hard to remember a time when my Mom didn’t have lots of books around.

Education is especially important to them and they read to us constantly!

My Mom also gave us a love for all things plaid and horses.  They’re both featured all around the house!

Now that the master bedroom refresh at Bliss Barracks is finished, we’ll be working to decorate the master bathroom next.

We need a few rugs, towels, and we’re going to do a fun blue and white plate gallery wall too.

I know sometimes it can be overwhelming to try and decorate a house all at once because there are so many decisions to make. But don’t lose heart!

Keep making changes, moving forward and making progress.  Even small changes can have a big impact!

Let us know what decorating projects you’ve been working on lately!

This is such a beautiful space, CoCo! Every single piece looks collected over time, and has a part in creating a cozy elegance. So lovely!

    1. Thank you, Linda! Looking back I don’t know how some of those pieces survived all those military moves for so many years. It’s fun to see how things change from one house to another though. Speaking of which, I hope you’re enjoying life at the lake. All your water photos are gorgeous 🙂 Big hugs, CoCo

I love seeing how people keep major pieces and still update their homes. When I re-did my living room, I kept the tables, lamps, and one of the occasional chairs. The window treatments were only a year or so old and since I loved them, I kept the deep red-burgundy in mind when I looked for new furniture. I choose a light beige sofa. It’s big and comfortable. The upholstery on the French-style occasional chair I kept works with the sofa color. I bought another chair with linen upholstery. For color, I added two floral print armchairs with matching ottomans. They have a blue background and the red flowers bring the drapery color across the room. The other colors in the print work really well with the more neutral colors of the sofa and occasional chairs. To bring the floral color across the room, I bought a drapery panel and recovered the toss pillows that came with the sofa. I updated both bathrooms by painting the vanities and changing the artwork/accessories. I love having a home that reflects my style!

    1. These changes sound so lovely, Nancy, I’m super excited for you! I totally agree with you about having a home that reflects your style. I know so many people feel the pressure to do whatever is trendy or popular at the time. But I always say, decorate with those things that tell your story and the pieces that make your heart sing! It sounds like you have some beautiful pieces that are classic and timeless. Hope you’re having a great summer so far, CoCo

Thank you for taking around your parents home and their efforts to bring changes all by themselves are commendable.
I loved the vibrant colours they have used and that mirror.
The joy of having to do things on your own is priceless.
I have been planning to get our family bathroom done. Gardening and cooking has definitely kept me busy.
Hope you are having a great week.

    1. Thank you, Hasin! It’s been fun to watch my parents transition their home from a darker color palette to a lighter one while at the same time keeping a signature style. I can’t wait to see how the upstairs area comes together as well. So excited to hear that you’ve been cooking and gardening. I swear there’s nothing like preparing a meal for friends and family and getting your hands dirty in the garden. Hope your summer has been a fun one so far, hugs, CoCo

  4. The room is lovely and I think you really found a treasure with the coffee table. It goes so well with the rest of the furnishings.

    1. Thanks so much, Karen! We couldn’t believe our luck finding the coffee table for a steal at $15. It was definitely a special surprise on the treasure trail 🙂 Hope you’re having a great week, CoCo
