Master Bedroom Refresh Ideas
Today, we’re sharing a few master bedroom refresh ideas for our home, Journey’s End!
Thoughts on Bucket Lists & Being Productive…
The week we started social distancing, I created a bucket list of things I wanted to work on and accomplish while we were safe at home.
At the time, I naively thought I would wake up each morning and start tackling the list with gusto!
But as the days stretched into weeks, I struggled to find the motivation to even look at the list much less tackle anything which is not my normal M.O.
After speaking with my accountability partner about the struggles, I was finally able to articulate what was really going on.
And as you guys know, once you name it, you can claim it, and find a path to move forward.
That day, I got off the phone realizing I didn’t have to be super productive during our time of social distancing. I could go at my own pace and in my own time without the fear of deadlines, hustling or traveling.
To be perfectly honest, the relief was such a gift.
It’s been a while since I’ve taken a moment to think, dream and reevaluate my options much less taken the time to just be.
So, I carefully reviewed the list and thought about the projects I would be disappointed in myself the most for not completing or working on during this time of social distancing.
And as you can imagine, the list got much shorter.
Some of the items on the original list we’ve had to table completely. Some of them have been postponed until the Fall.
There are still plenty of things to work on though, one of the biggest being a master bedroom refresh.
Decorating While Greiving…
When I originally put a design plan together for this space, I had no idea my Mom’s parents would pass away within 36 hours of each other.
We were in the middle of the One Room Challenge and looking back, I think we thought if we just kept “soldiering on” with something to work on, it would lesson our grief.
But the reality was, it only delayed our grief.
Most of the decisions, I made for this space were made during that time of grief.
While the room has been completely functional, there are a few things I would have done differently.
I would have spent more time making the room feel like a true retreat space. And I wouldn’t have painted everything so dark. It’s been a beast to clean.
Especially, out here in the country.
Now that I’ve had a bit more time to think about everything, I’ve come up with a few master bedroom refresh ideas for this space.
It’s not going to be anything major. I’m still using all the same pieces of furniture and keeping the stenciled floor.
I’m just going to paint the furniture in a color palette that is more consistent with the rest of the house.
And I’m also hoping to update the bedding too.
I’ve always gravitated to white bedding because it’s so easy to clean when you have pets.
Most of the time, you can throw the duvet cover and shams into the laundry with a bit of bleach or whitening powder and you’re good to go.
While my gut instinct is to stay with all white linens, I also thought this might be a good opportunity to add a pop of color. They’ll be muted colors of course because that is our style.
Still, a little pop of something might be a nice fresh change.

Looking forward to seeing what you do with the space. CoCo! I so understand what you’re feeling…I’ve given myself permission to just be and feel. I don’t have to be productive every minute of the day. It really has been a relief to me, too. xo
Oh my gosh, Linda, it has taken off so much pressure, hasn’t it? I just keep telling myself take the time to rest now that way when everything is open again you’ll be back at it with gusto 🙂 Sending you lots of peace filled hugs, CoCo
Your stenciled floor is so beautiful, I am glad that it will make the cut. Either option 1 or option 2 will be beautiful. I can’t wait to see what you do!
I really appreciate it, Heidi, thanks so much! I think it’s going to be fun to put together. Hope you’re having a great week, CoCo
These are terrific ways to decorate a master bedroom, thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much!
Hummm. All this living with ourselves trapped at home. I made a personal change over the weekend too. I have a quote framed on my wall:
“I try so hard to be who I ought to be, I forgot who I am” We are so busy ‘doing the dance’ we lose track of time and things.
I pick the floral BTW.
That is such a great quote Myrna! I’m definitely going to write that in my journal today, I love it. It speaks to me too. While I would not have chosen a pandemic to get the message to slow down, I’m definitely thankful for the opportunity. It’s really helped me to see how I can serve my home and others more. Hope you’re having a great week, CoCo PS: I love the floral the most too 🙂
I love all the feminine touches in option 1! And I’m so glad the stenciled floor will be staying. It’s beautiful!
How bizarre that your mom’s parents passed away so close together. I’m sorry that your family had to go through that difficult time.
I love Option 2 — it has a fireplace! Thanks for sharing at Vintage Charm. xo Kathleen
Thank you, Kathleen! I know we don’t always need a fireplace especially in Florida but I can already see myself snuggled up in front of one reading a good book in the wintertime 🙂 Hugs, CoCo
