Spring Front Door Flower Basket
Today, we’re sharing how to create a Spring front door flower basket!
An Unexpected Thrifted Find…
A while ago, I found a fabulous basket at one of our local thrift stores. I was actually look for bookcases for the office makeover but came up empty handed.
Anyway, as you probably know, you have to visit thrift stores often because the merchandise is different every single week. Sometimes you go and find exactly what you’re looking for and other times it’s slim pickins.
As soon as I saw this basket though I knew it would be perfect to help add a bit of Spring to the front door.
This flower basket was simple to make as we took a few faux flowers we already had on hand and mixed in some Texas Sage from around our property.
Here’s a look at how you can create a Spring front door flower basket at your house too…

One of the most exciting things about this basket other than it has a flower market feel, is that it was $2.50.
I know…that never happens anymore!
It’s just a tiny bit weathered too.
I didn’t realize it at the time but this basket is pretty deep
which meant I had to use a mix of floral foam and a lightweight container to help keep some of the flower stems in place.
Securing the Flower Basket…
It also meant I needed find a way to keep the flower basket firmly secured to the front door.
I tried a mix of floral foam wire, burlap ribbon and twist ties (think bread bag ties) before finally using a combination of wire and ribbon to attach the basket to the wreath holder on the front door.
Adding Flowers and Greenery…
I placed the largest flowers in the basket first.
These look almost like peonies but they’re actually roses.
Then I snuggled the taller flowers around the roses.
It’s just like decorating a spring mantel in that you want to vary the heights and sizes of the flowers in the basket in order to keep things interesting.
Once you have the base filled with flowers, start adding filler to the arrangement.
In this case, I decided to use Texas Sage which grows on our property.
Real vs Faux Flowers…
I know some people are squeamish about using faux flowers indoors or outdoors.
Believe me, I totally get it.
I started changing the way I thought about faux flowers when we needed to bring some “life” to my childhood home, Loblolly Manor.
We were finishing the final decorative touches on that house and needed to use something that could withstand not being watered for weeks at a time.
After a lot of thought, we finally decided to mix real greenery and faux flowers in a few of the rooms and it made a huge difference.
Spring Inspiration…
As you’re searching for inspiration this season, carefully read and study the photos in your favorite home décor magazines and books.
I bet you’ll find flowers or plants in almost every single space.
You don’t have to find a flower market basket at a thrift store to create a look like this for your front door. Any basket that is flat on the back will do.
Besides, it’s all about celebrating Spring with a warm and welcoming entry for your family and friends.

I love this Coco! I have a similar type of basket sitting on the vignette in my post today except mine is kinda flat on both sides and has jute roping to hang it (which you can’t see in the photo). Faux flowers have come a long way and sometimes it is hard to tell between them and the real thing. I say, go faux and occasionally mix in some real. Have a great day.

I love flowers – real and faux. No one can possibly have fresh flowers year round – and I try! You need centerpieces that don’t need replacing weekly. I have Christmas and other holiday wreaths and pieces that I’ve fluffed, added to and loved several years. I also use faux wreaths and baskets on my front door. Love faux!
