Breakfast Nook Refresh Plans
Today, we’re sharing our latest plans for a breakfast nook refresh!
If you’ve been following all things TCG for a while now, you already know our breakfast nook has undergone many changes over the years. It’s not intentional at all but it’s one of the easiest spaces to makeover and refresh no matter what the season.
A Bit of Background…
Last August, we gave the breakfast nook a complete makeover changing out everything from the rug to the wall art. We also painted the hutch in French Linen and gave the breakfast nook table a refresh too.
After all the painting, changing and rearranging I was sure we were done with the space because we loved it so much.
But then in May, we decided to give one of the bedrooms a makeover as part of the Spring One Room Challenge. And as strange as it might sound that decision totally disrupted everything in the breakfast nook.
The biggest reason was because we needed 10 yards of fabric to use as curtains for the bed crown. But we also needed 6 more yards of the same fabric to use as curtains around the bedroom window.
Over and over again, I would search online and in stores trying to find just the right fabric for the bedroom. Yet every single time I kept coming back to the floral fabric we had used in the breakfast nook.
Finding a Solution…
With time running out on the One Room Challenge, I finally reached out to my Mom for some advice. She said, “CoCo, you’re going to be looking at this fabric for a long time. What is the one fabric you’ve seen so far you would be able to look at every single day and not be sick of it in a few months?”
And I knew the answer immediately.
Most of the time I’m a huge proponent of “shopping your house first” before you start buying random things for room makeovers. Shopping your house is a great way to recycle and to keep things out of the landfill, it’s a good way to learn new diy skills and to help stretch your budget too.
I guess if there’s a downside it’s that sometimes shopping your house for one room can totally disrupt another. The upside is the disruption offers you the chance to stretch your creativity and decorating skills when you’re ready to tackle your next makeover. This was definitely the case for us in the breakfast nook.
A Few Things We Need to Address…
While we’re not doing anything major in the breakfast nook this time around, we do need to address a few cosmetic issues.
- We need curtains.
- The rug that’s currently in the breakfast nook is a bit too busy for the space so we’ll need to replace the rug.
- We need new wall art.
- The pillows on the bench need to be refreshed with a subtle pop of color.
- We need to either purchase textured chairs OR we need to find a way to bring a bit of color to our current chairs via a chair pad.
The Design Inspiration…
Here’s a peek at how mixing some of our old pieces with new finds would look for a quick and easy breakfast refresh…
Finding the fabric for the curtains was really easy once I fell in love with this rug from Birch Lane.
As frequently as we change things out in the breakfast nook, I’m thinking about using various posters throughout the year so we can switch them out each season. The poster pictured here is from Great Big Canvas.
After that it was all about sourcing a fun statement pillows like these fox pillows.
I’m a little stumped as to what to do about the chairs though. I would love to have some really pretty antique chairs for upholstered chairs in the breakfast nook, but I don’t have anything specific in mind right now.
While I love the gray weathered wicker chairs shown above, both the table and the coffee bar have weathered finishes to them so it might be bit too much to add one more weathered thing to the mix. I think I’ll wait to see how the rest of the space comes together first before deciding on those.
Other than that, I’m on the hunt for a simple centerpiece idea and I need to add some greenery with plants or flowers, and we should be good to go. What do you think? Can we pull this off easily? I hope so!
What room makeovers are you guys working on right now? Until next time, I’ll see you on Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest.
Many blessings,
CoCo
I wondered what happened to this area after the bedroom makeover. The mood board looks completely different than how the room looked before. I can’t wait to see how it turns out.
I thought the same thing, Sarah! I’m really hoping we’ll be able to furnish our home with items that can be easily transitioned from one room to another. I don’t know if I’m already in the mood for Fall or what but I’m crossing my fingers this whole area is going to feel super cozy. Hugs, CoCo
