How to Refresh a Christmas Wreath

We’re sharing how to refresh a Christmas wreath today!

Each year, I try to come up with a holiday home theme as early as possible and I know so many of you do too.

It’s so nice to be able to take advantage of early sale events and to find just the right pieces in the months leading up to Christmas.  

I knew pretty early on that this year’s theme would be Champagne Wishes.

And for the most part, it’s been an easy one because we had a lot of the things we needed on hand already.  

But there was one thing I had a hard time finding and that was a wreath I loved.

Unlike in years past, I haven’t had a lot of extra time to make my own Christmas wreath.

So, I went back and forth from big box store to big box store for days trying to find just the right thing.

With time running out, I finally settled on a wreath from Joanns knowing I could make a few small tweaks to make it my own.

Here’s a look at how to refresh a Christmas wreath if you find yourself in a similar position…

Christmas Wreath Refresh Supplies:

• Rub n Buff (We used gold, but you can use whatever color works best for you)
• Rub n Buff Application Brush
• Gloves
• Faux Greenery or Floral Picks
• Floral Wire
• Floral Wire Cutters
• Ribbon or Bow

Christmas Wreath Refresh Steps:

Gather your supplies.

As I mentioned above, I found this wreath on sale at Joanns.

I liked everything about it except for the wonky shape and the fact I wanted gold or champagne bulbs instead of red ones.

So, my first step was to change out the red bulb ornaments for gold ones.

I didn’t want to risk messing the entire wreath up though.

Ultimately, I decided to use a craft brush to apply gold Rub n Buff to the red bulb ornaments.

This is how it looks when you use one coat of Rub n Buff.

And this what is looks like with two coats.  

Once the Rub n Buff had dried, I added additional greenery picks so the refreshed Christmas wreath would have a fuller look.  

Greenery picks like these are fabulous because you can use them in wreaths, garlands, or floral arrangements.

They were also on sale at Joanns.

This wreath is pretty sturdy.

So, I weaved the faux greenery picks directly into the grapevine wreath form.

That said, you might have to secure your greenery picks in place with additional florist wire.

Especially if you plan to use a wreath like this on the front porch.

Once your greenery picks are secure and in place, add a ribbon or a store-bought bow.  

You can place it near the bottom,

or near the top.

Creating Your Own Christmas Magic…

When I was first thinking about how to refresh a Christmas wreath, I thought it would be complicated and involved.

But it took less than 15 minutes save for the time it took for the Rub n Buff to set.  

I know it can be scary sometimes to alter new wreaths, especially if you don’t feel completely confident in your skills.

Don’t be afraid to get creative though.

With just a few simple tweaks, you can create something that fits the vision you have for your holiday home.

So, don’t be afraid to think outside of the box!
