Easy Marshmallow Bar

We’re sharing how to create an easy marshmallow bar today!

If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the many holiday breaks my family has spent together, it’s that the littles almost never stop moving.

They dance all the way to the kitchen when it’s time for meals, run out the door to participate in the bike brigade, and all but skip up the stairs to watch a movie.

While similar in some ways, they’re very different in others.

But there is one thing they can all agree on.

And that’s helping us make sweet treats and hot chocolate during the holiday season.  

Creating an Easy Marshmallow Bar…

My mom and I  first created this easy marshmallow bar several years ago.

It was such a big hit, we recently decided to create it again.

These marshmallows are super simple to make and it’s something the whole family can enjoy together.

Bonus, they can easily be customized for picky eaters. 

Here’s a look at what you’ll need to create an Easy Marshmallow Bar of your own…

Easy Marshmallow Bar Supplies:

• Jumbo Marshmallows
• Candy Melts or Melting Chocolate
• Variety of Candy (that can be easily crushed)
• Parchment Paper
• Kabob Sticks
• Microwavable Bowls (for the candy melts)
• Small Bowls (for the crushed candy bits)
• Baking Sheet
• Rolling Pin
• Spoons
• Tarp (to cover your workspace, this project can be messy)
• Floral Foam (to help display your marshmallows, optional)
• Small Box (to display your marshmallows, optional)
• Extra Marshmallows (for the display, optional)

Easy Marshmallow Bar Steps:

Gather your supplies and lay a tarp down to protect your work surface.

We found candy melts in a wide variety of colors in the cake decorating section of our local craft supply store. 

And the melting chocolate in the baking section of the grocery store.

Place the chips in a microwavable bowl and melt the chocolates in the microwave according to the directions on the package.

While the chocolate is melting, place the marshmallows on a plate

and insert one kabob stick into each marshmallow.

Remember to use caution and care as kabob sticks will be sharp.

You’ll also want to start crushing the candy and cookie toppings at this time. 

We used a piece of parchment paper and a rolling pin to crush up candies, cookies, and nuts.

Once the melting chocolate is ready, place the marshmallow directly into the melted chocolate.

After you have the desired amount of chocolate on your marshmallow, garnish with candy toppings.

Allow them to set as per bag instructions by resting on a piece of parchment paper lined baking sheet. 

This step is really important so don’t rush it!

Creating a Simple Display

While the marshmallows were resting, we created a display out of an antique steamer basket.

But honestly, you can use anything from a bowl to a platter to a vintage box.

We lined this one with floral foam to make the marshmallows sturdy yet accessible.

Then we covered the floral foam with white napkins and different-sized marshmallows.

Before we added the marshmallows to the marshmallow bar, we embellished each one with a pink velvet ribbon.

We used the milk glass-inspired cake stand to corral the Santa mugs we’ve collected for years.

And using the ironstone teapot for hot water makes serving hot cocoa a breeze.

Of course, we had to include candy canes because we love peppermint hot chocolate.

But you can also include cinnamon and other spices as well.

Putting all these elements together to create an easy marshmallow bar was so much fun.

Our breakfast nook feels really festive now.

Plus, it’s a really low-fuss way to share holiday cheer with your friends and family.
