Spring Inspired Flower Pot Cupcakes

We’re sharing spring-inspired flower pot cupcakes today.

Several years ago, we were looking for something fun to do with the littles when we came across a fabulous flower pot cupcake kit.

The minute I pulled them out of the oven I knew they would be perfect for spring.

Unfortunately, the kit I used is no longer available.

But you can probably find silicone terra cotta pots on Amazon and at big box craft supply stores.

Here’s a look at how to make Spring Inspired Flower Pot Cupcakes and a few tips I learned along the way…

Flower Pot Cupcake Supplies:

• Terra Cotta Pot Silicone Baking Cups
• Store Bought Cake Mix (Including related baking supplies like eggs, oil/butter, etc.)
• Baking Spray
• Stand Mixer
• Cookie Sheet
• Toothpick
• Cooling Rack
• Frosting
• Icing Bag
• Icing Tips
• Assorted Seasonal and Flower Sprinkles

Spring-Inspired Flower Pot Cupcakes Steps: 

The flower pot is made from silicon which I had never baked with before. So, I wasn’t really sure what to expect.

Following the directions on the back of the baking kit, I lightly greased the inside of each pot with baking spray.

Then I used our stand mixer (we don’t have a hand mixer) to create the cake mix that was included inside the kit.

Just a heads up, it would have been a lot easier to use a hand mixer in a bowl that has a pour spout.

Especially when it came time to pour the batter into each spring-inspired flower pot cup.

I used a ¼ cup measuring cup because it had a spout.

But using a bowl that already had a spout to mix everything in would have cut down on the time and mess.

Once the flower pot cups are filled, place them on a baking sheet a few inches apart.

There were 6 flower pot cups/molds in our kit.

Baking the Spring-Inspired Flower Pot Cupcakes: 

Bake in the oven as per the directions on your kit or cake mix. Ours was 350 degrees for 14-16 minutes.

As always, use caution and care when baking as the oven and its contents will be hot.

I used a toothpick to help confirm when the flower pot cupcakes were ready to come out of the oven.

Allow the cupcakes to cool completely on a cooling rack.

As you can see, I used all of the cake mix included in our kit and filled them right to the fill line.

But they didn’t get as high as I was hoping.

I’ll definitely be trying this again with a store-bought cake mix because they’re so cute.

Frosting the Cupcakes: 

We also had a frosting mix in our kit, you can use store-bought frosting as well though.

I also used a piping bag and a 16-tip to apply the frosting on the flower pot cupcake.

As you can see the icing gets soft very quickly.

It does harden a tiny bit over time.

But if you like stiff icing you may want to consider using a different icing.

In addition, because the cupcakes didn’t rise as high as I thought they would, I had to use a lot of icing to help fill in the gaps.

Decorating the Spring Inspired Flower Pot Cupcakes:

These green sprinkles came in our kit.

But you can also find seasonal sprinkles at most craft supply stores.

We used them around the edge of the flower pot cupcake to look like grass.

And these flower sprinkles came in our kit too.

The pastel colors are perfect for Spring!

Another tip is to place a piece of wax paper or parchment paper on top of a cookie sheet and then place your cooling racks on top.

It makes cleaning up all those loose sprinkles easy peasy.

Things got really messy very quickly. But it was so much fun to pile on all the sprinkles!

If you’re wondering how the flower pot cupcake tastes…

it was actually moister than I had imagined

and the icing was sweeter than I had imagined.

We will definitely be trying these again!

I should note here the instructions recommend not using any sharp objects with the silicon flower pots.

So, you’ll probably want to use a spoon to scoop out all this goodness.

I’m totally bummed I couldn’t find a similar kit online. The original kit we found was from Big Lots made by the Blooming Cupcakes brand.

Nevertheless, I plan to try these spring-inspired flower pot cupcakes using a store-bought cake mix.

And maybe even real terra cotta pots too.

They’re perfect for the spring and summer seasons.
