Jack and Jill Bathroom Makeover at Bliss Barracks

Today, I want to share with you a simple makeover we gave the Jack and Jill bathroom at Bliss Barracks. We’re just a few rooms short of having all the rooms upstairs refreshed and finished! Yeah!

The vintage inspired white bedroom shares a bathroom with a bedroom that is equestrian inspired. I’ll share it with you soon. It’s probably the most masculine of all the bedrooms upstairs. These three rooms are the most requested rooms by families that want to stay together while they’re visiting Bliss Barracks.

While it makes sense for these two bedrooms to share a bathroom it was a more difficult to decorate than I expected. Too many touches of red or brown would make it look like it was the bathroom for the masculine bedroom. Too many touches of white would make it look like it was the bathroom for the vintage white bedroom. After trying a few different ideas, we ultimately decided to use elements from each room and combine them in a masculine meets feminine bathroom makeover.

Here’s a peek at how all of the details came together…

I didn’t have a chance to take any before pictures of this bathroom but it was another bathroom that was kind of coastal-ish (read lots of blues and whites). My mom wanted the powder room area to be completely neutral. She was so excited to find this picture which captured two of her favorite things…travel and photography. It quickly became the inspiration for the room!

We’ve really been streamlining all the spaces at Bliss Barracks and this powder room was no exception. We filled a vintage trophy bowl with moss,

added these pretty hand towels,

and these glass soap dispensers too.

The cabinets were already white so we kept them intact and added a black and white check rug.

In the washroom, we chose a bold but masculine plaid fabric that my mom made into a shower curtain. It was love at first site as soon as we saw it in the fabric store!

The bathmat is a neutral camel color with a classic texture.

My mom and I were out shopping a few weeks ago when we found this flask. It was just the equestrian touch we needed without being all, “we love horses!” (read: theme-y). The tray and monogrammed pewter cup were also thrifted finds.

We decided to use the same style bath sheets in the washroom as we had used for the hand towels in the powder room, again, to keep things consistent.

While we didn’t make any major changes with paint, tile or flooring, the transition from coastal to traditional décor is now more in line with the style of the rest of the house. Yet, both the washroom and the powder room are neutral enough to bridge the gap between the adjoining bedrooms.

It’s always fun to have options, right?
