Blue and White Bedroom Refresh

Today, we’re sharing another blue and white bedroom refresh at my parent’s home, Bliss Barracks!

This room easily came together because we shopped the house and reused so many of the existing pieces of furniture, accessories and the rug we had been using in the twin bedroom.

As with the twin bedroom refresh and the blue and white guest bedroom refresh, the biggest transformation was moving from a traditional color palette of browns, reds, greens and creams to blues, whites, and pops of green.

Both photos you see above are from the bedroom before we started working on the refresh. Honestly, it wasn’t bad at all, but my Mom was definitely ready for a change.

There are a lot of before and afters to show you so let get started!

Blue and White Bedroom Refresh Before and After…

We knew in advance we were going to use a lot of the existing pieces, most of which have a very masculine feel.  So, I talked my Mom into balancing the masculine furniture with feminine linens and it made a huge difference.

Next, we replaced the vintage suitcase stack, which was being used as a nightstand,

with an actual nightstand and it really brought all the pieces of furniture together nicely.

Once those pieces were set, we replaced the red rug that had originally been used in the room

With the blue and white rug, we had previously been using in the blue and white twin bedroom.

The bold punch of blue really helped to join the feminine bedding with the masculine dark furniture.

On the other side of the bed, we swapped out the small rattan stand for more substantial desk I painted in Cartouche Green.

While there’s not a lot of green in the rest of the room save for the greenery, it was another easy way to soften the bedroom and to make it more functional too.

The large traditional dresser and mirror as well as the bed were both non-negotiables because my parents have had them for so long, they’re probably antiques now ?

Truthfully, the large mirror is a huge blessing.  Especially, when my sisters are putting on their makeup on. They do all sorts of blending and contouring; I swear I’ll never understand ?

As far as wall art goes, my Mom found these antique botanical prints while we were at Renninger’s over the summer and had them framed.  They’re another really subtle nod to easily adding green to the bedroom refresh.

Decorating With Vintage, Antique and Thrifted Finds…

All the accessories you see as part of the bedroom refresh, were items we either had on hand or picked up at estate sales, thrift stores, antique malls or charity shops.

Taking it Step By Step…

We have just a few more spaces to finish upstairs before we tackle the downstairs, but things are definitely coming together.

I know it can be difficult to take on an entire house makeover at once so I’m glad we’re taking it step-by-step and room-by-room.

While we started out with a solid game plan and a color palette in mind, this bedroom refresh feels like it came together pretty seamlessly.

Which is why I whole heartedly agree with the adage, if you buy what you love, you’ll always find a place for it.

Let us know if you’re planning a bedroom refresh this year and what colors you plan to use!

And before you go, here are a few other posts from Bliss Barracks you might enjoy…

Until next time, I’ll see you on Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest.

Many blessings,

CoCo

    1. I really appreciate it, Michelle! It was so much fun to put together and to be able to collect things here and there over time like the encyclopedias. We’re still amazed at how different it all looks now 🙂 Hugs, CoCo

  3. A beautiful makeover! You’re right, the original decorating was in no way bad, but definitely a masculine feel. I love the change! The furniture still feels masculine, but the blue and white bedding and rug gives a feminine flair. A very nice balance!

I had to laugh at your comment regarding makeup because I could relate. I don’t wear makeup because it all makes my eyes burn. But watching my stepdaughters apply their makeup….. Its all beyond me.

    1. Thank you so much for your sweet comments about the blue and white guest bedroom makeover, Michelle! It was a lot of fun to help my Mom pull everything together for a fresh feel. I’m so with you on the makeup thing! I swear my sisters are both masters at makeup application and it sounds like your stepdaughters are too. It’s fun to watch them but I’m such a minimalist when it comes to that business 🙂 Hugs for a happy week, CoCo

    1. You so sweet, Amber, thank you! I don’t think their home (or mine for that matter) would be the same without a few equestrian horses here and there. It’s been so much fun to help them lighten this space up. Hugs, CoCo

  5. Blue and white are so in these days and you did a fabulous job! I never considered myself a blue person (but for my blue jeans lol) but I’m really considering changing a room or two in my house to reflect the blue and white vibe. Love what you did! Thanks for sharing at Vintage Charm. xo Kathleen

    1. You’re sweet, Kathleen, thank you so much! My parents have had a very traditional color palette at their home for the longest time. I’m a gray, white and camel girl who loves pops of pink myself but all the blue and white changes have been so much fun to help them create. We still have a few more rooms to go but they’re really excited about how it’s all coming together 🙂 Hugs, CoCo

  6. Wow what a difference CoCo! I especially love the side table desk! Everything looks well thought out. It’s ready for me to be a guest, right?!

    1. Thank you so much, Cindy! My parents have a ton of visitors especially during the holidays and the summer. One of the biggest requests of their guests was a place to put their laptops and charge their phones and tablets. So, I think the desk is going to well-received 🙂 It’s definitely been fun to help them change things up and decorate with lots of blue and white. Sending you big hugs, CoCo
