DIY Pink Milk Glass

Nearly every year, I spend my birthday weekend treasure hunting and it’s always so much fun.   

This year, as I was headed to the cash register with a few pieces of ironstone, I spotted the prettiest pink candy dish I’d ever seen.

Up to that point, I had heard about pink milk glass, but I had never seen a piece in real life.

Looking back, I’m thankful it was locked behind a glass case because I really don’t need one more thing to collect.

And given I haven’t seen a piece of pink milk glass since creating a collection via Etsy would have been really tempting.

Still, I think about that candy dish often.

So, when Cindy shared that our theme for this month’s blog hop would be milk glass, I immediately started thinking about how I could make my own version.

Here’s a look at how to create quick and easy DIY pink milk glass…

DIY Pink Milk Glass Supplies:

• Glass Vase
• Warm Soapy Water
• Lint Free Cloth
• Rust-Oleum Chalked Spray Paint in Blush Pink
• Protective Wear
• Plastic Cup or Empty Paint Can

DIY Pink Milk Glass Steps:

Gather your supplies.

We found these pieces at the thrift store.

I looked all over for a glass candy dish but couldn’t find one. So, I settled on these vases and I think they’re going to work out just as well.

Wash your glass pieces with warm soapy water, (we used the original blue Dawn) and dry them with a lint-free cloth.

Next, place your vase upside down on top of an old paint can or plastic cup. This will act as a stand so you can get around all the sides evenly.

Then using caution, care, and following the safety instructions listed on the back of your can of spray paint, spray your glass pieces in a well-ventilated area.

We painted these pieces outside before it got too hot.

If you’re new to spray painting, it’s always better to spray multiple thin coats as opposed to one or two thick coats.

Also, if you spray too close to your vase, you run the risk of drips.

Creating DIY pink milk glass is a process, so take your time. You’ll definitely need to be patient!

Especially where heat, humidity, and other weather elements that affect drying time are concerned.

Since I plan to add water to these vases, I chose not to spray the inside.

This is after one coat of spray paint…

after two coats…

and after three…

Sometimes you might not even need three coats of spray paint depending on the size of your vases. The hobnail vase took three coats but the small bud vase only took two.

Decorating with Milk Glass…

All in all, I’m excited about the way these DIY pink milk glass vases came together. They add such a pretty pop of blush to tablescapes and vignettes.

While the real deal will always be the best choice, if you don’t have room for any more collections, pink milk glass is not readily available in your area, or you need a budget-friendly option, this DIY pink milk glass idea is a fun idea to try.

And if you’re already thinking about the upcoming season, this shade of blush pink is super neutral and goes with so many things!
