French Country Laundry Room Makeover

I’m so excited to finally share the French Country laundry room makeover at my parent’s home, Bliss Barracks with you today. We’ve probably been dreaming up ideas for this space since May. Then our lives got a little crazy and sometimes my mom has trouble making decisions (just sayin).

It’s easy to give her lots of grace though because she’s crazy creative, uber talented and one of the kindest, most generous people on the planet. My mom is very visual which I’ve come to appreciate and she can spot a diamond in the rough like nobody’s business.

When she asked me to help give the laundry room at Bliss Barracks at French Country makeover, I jumped at the chance to help bring her vision to life and spend a bit of extra time with her too. There’s nothing like going home. Here’s a look at how all the details came together…

The laundry room already has good bones so there weren’t really any major changes to DIY. It was mostly bringing in decorative elements that made the space pretty and functional. The laundry room is opposite the mudroom and is long and narrow (approx. 10 feet long by 4.5 feet wide)

On one side of the room is the new folding station

and her vintage laundry basket.

The other side of the laundry room has a wall of cabinets, washer, dryer and sink.

On a side note, if I’m ever lucky enough to design my own house, sign me up for a sink in the laundry room. It’s super convenient. Can we just talk about how well placed that bar is too? You can hang wet or dry clothes on it. Love!

The first thing we decided to do was bring in a new rug. We searched for months for a rug we loved but came home empty handed after every trip. I finally suggested my mom shop her house for a possible rug option. She immediately found a rug she loved for the laundry room in her bedroom.

The rug helped to soften the room and the travertine floors too.

With the rug in place we set about hanging the artwork. My mom chose these pieces for the area by the washer and dryer

and a gallery wall of black and white laundry photos for the area by the folding station.

One bonus of having a folding station is that it can pull double duty for other things like flower arranging.

Using the drawers as storage makes all the supplies easily accessible.

and having the sink close by makes filling pitchers with water easy too.

Using soap dispensers with pretty labels is a simple way to jazz up the sink area in your kitchen, bathroom or laundry room.

You can usually find pretty hand soap and inexpensive towel sets at places like Home Goods, Marshalls and TJ Maxx.

At this point things were really starting to take shape in the French Country inspired laundry room so we began adding in layers of texture. I love this little vignette in the corner. You can read all about how we “aged” those wooden clothespins here.

We also added in bits of vintage, like this clothespin bag that belong to my Granny.

and of course, you can’t beat the classic ticking on the vintage laundry basket

or the fleur de lis doorstop.

All in all, we’re excited about the way everything came together.

We didn’t make any major changes.

It was really about creating small moments here and there

that make laundry feel more like an experience

and less like a chore.
