ASCP Vintage Mirror Frame Makeover
I spent a good portion of last Friday, trying to pull together pieces for my booth space. Mostly random items and bits of inventory I’ve picked up over several shopping trips. Styling a booth is kind of like styling your home. It takes multiple pieces that all fit within the same vision in order to pull “the look” off. As items sell, you have to have a clear plan or signature style you’re creating which means all the items that are being replaced must fit within that same style. Thankfully, everything I found at the estate sale fit together with things I’ve been holding onto like this mirror.
I bought this vintage mirror at an estate sale about a year and a half ago. It was in my booth for exactly one day when another vendor was moving things around in her booth and the mirror fell and separated from the frame. It was a total accident and I’m so glad no one was hurt. Both pieces are really heavy. I’m also happy that neither the mirror nor the frame broke so they could be put back together again. I mean look at these details…
I wasn’t sure if the mirror portion had to be reset by a professional or not so while I was waiting on that part of the project to be figured out, I decided to update the frame. The frame is really pretty and honestly could carry the wall with or without the mirror. I didn’t want to lose the details but it definitely needed a fresh look. This project took a few hours to complete and is great if you’re just starting out learning how to paint and painting an entire piece of furniture seems a bit scary. Here’s what you’ll need to get started…
SUPPLIES: (Affiliate link have been provided for your convenience. Please read our full disclosure statement here )
Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White
Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Country Grey
2 inch paintbrush (This is my favorite starter pack)
Fine detail art brush
Top coat (wax, polyurethane, polycrylic of your choice)
Brush or cloth to apply the top coat depending on what you choose
Drop Cloth to protect your surfaces
STEPS:
I started out by layering the first coat of Old White on the mirror frame using a 2-inch brush. I didn’t really get into all of the crannies because I wanted to give a bit of definition to the appliqued portions. This is after one coat of paint…
Using light colored paint usually takes at least 2 or 3 applications so I knew the frame would definitely need another coat. This is after 2 full coats plus adequate drying time…
Once the base coats of paint were completely dry, I used a fine detail art brush and applied Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Country Grey to the appliques as well as some of the trim on the frame. It’s a really great mix of colors if you want layers of neutrals. Pure White and Country Grey also look pretty together.
Using the Country Grey against the Old White really made the details of the frame pop. I didn’t want to take away from that too much but since it’s an old mirror frame, I decided to lightly sand with 220-grit sandpaper and hit the edges of the trim and appliques to simulate a bit of age. I sealed the mirror with furniture paste wax.
Most of the items in my booth are neutrals with a coastal slant given the space is in the cutest coastal town. As it turns out, my bestie S is going to be able to reattach the mirror to the frame and restore this beauty after all. Hopefully, we’ll have it all put back together in a few days. I can’t wait to see how it all looks. The frame alone is really pretty…
Pin this one for later…
See you guys back here tomorrow. With the first full week of school under our belts I’m sharing an easy to make room freshener to help kick off the day. Until then, I’ll see you on Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest.
Many blessings,
CoCo
What a great mirror/frame! I love all of the sweet details on it. There are a million used for it and it would look darling just about anywhere. You’ll have no problem selling that one. Love your booth! I was in last Saturday for a quick peek. It looked great!
Thank you, Nancy! I’m glad we were able to put it all back together again. I’ve been on the hunt for a few more key pieces so I can revamp the booth. Bridget called the other day to tell me I need to get in there and bring more stuff 🙂 Hugs, CoCo
