One Room Challenge Bedroom Makeover Reveal

After six long weeks and a lot of late nights eating tacos and cookies, today we are over the moon to share our Spring One Room Challenge Bedroom Makeover reveal. This is our 5th time participating in the One Room Challenge and every season we learn so much more than we could have ever imagined.

If you’ve been following on us on social media or are a friend of The Crowned Goat (if you’re new here, welcome) you probably already know, this sweet little lady has been waking us up between 1230 am and 3 am nearly every day for almost two years now.
In fact, it’s not lost on me at all that as I’m putting the finishing touches on this bedroom makeover reveal post, I can hear her cute little paws pacing the floors as she struggles with canine dementia.
One day, while I was up with this sweet pete I started thinking about how we could give the breakfast nook a bit of refresh and I started looking for French farmhouse inspired chair pads.
That chair pad search led me to Piper Classics for the first time where I not only found the chair pads, I found they had everything from country curtains to quilts and bedding to lighting to rugs and home décor including kitchen, dining and bath décor.
It was during that early morning hunt, I stumbled up on the gorgeous Annabelle bedding suite and totally fell in love.
I should insert here we had no plans to take on another makeover after having just finished the dining room. As you guys know though, decorating projects tend to snowball and once we decided to make a few changes to the living room it effected the bedroom right next door, and ultimately the room we’re in now.
When we first moved out here, the space was a jumbled mess of a bedroom that looked like this….
Then we decided to turn it into my home office for the Spring 2016 One Room Challenge and it became this…
Given we were going to have to turn the office back into a bedroom because of the living room changes and I had already fallen in love with the Annabelle bedding suite anyway, I decided early Tuesday morning we could make it work within the 6-week time frame of the One Room Challenge.
Never mind, the Challenge started the very next day.
A few hours later, I got a design plan together and enlisted the help of Team Crowned Goat, my parents and brother in law.
Most of you know, my bestie S who runs the TCG website and is usually my right hand on these kinds of projects fell right before the Fall One Room Challenge ended last year and has been in bilateral braces and on crutches.
Coincidentally, my other brother in law who usually helps with our projects recently had surgery and he was also on crutches. Looking back, I don’t even know how I thought we could pull it off, but I was believing big!
Week 1 of the One Room Challenge bedroom makeover started out well. We moved all the furniture from the bedroom and the office, and I painted the walls in Valspar’s Bistro White.
After the walls were dry, we slowly started bringing in pieces of furniture like this French Country inspired desk, we plan to double as a nightstand.
Next, we brought in the vintage furniture my Mom has had since childhood and added antique gold accents to the curves of the dressers.
We hung the antique gold mirror we picked up at an estate sale for $30,
and added a few of our favorite thrifted finds like horse trophies, worn ribbons, books, ironstone platters and weathered urns.
At this point I thought we were making great progress.
Then my Dad had a heart attack.
With two Team Crowned Goat members on crutches, one in the hospital and my brother in law busy running his own successful business – I went to sleep the night of my Dad’s heart attack thinking it was going to be all but impossible to finish the One Room Challenge bedroom makeover on time.
Oh my gosh, you guys, I felt so defeated.
Especially given my Dad was supposed to build the most significant piece in the entire bedroom, the bed crown.
He promised to rally though – even in the hospital – and rally he did.
In response, we all adjusted our schedules, took on extra tasks (like giving the mantel turned headboard a makeover), cut out a few projects all together (like refitting the bedroom closet), crossed off the small things on the to do list and cautiously took the rest of the challenge, one day at a time.
Thankfully, by the time the Piper Classics Annabelle bedding arrived, we were back on track and it felt amazing.
Honestly, I couldn’t imagine a more perfect complement to the bed crown and mantel headboard. The fabric of the Annabelle Ruffled Bedspread, Annabelle Ruffled Euro Sham and Annabelle Ruffled Pillow Shams is a creamy antique white fabric with a woven mini-honeycomb pattern.
The ruffles are generous without being too fussy and the fabric literally cascades off the bed in the most romantic way.
The body of the Annabelle bedspread is completely lined which makes layering with printed sheets, light blankets, or heavy quilts in any season, if needed, easy peasy.
As you guys know, I adore neutrals so what I love most about the Piper Classics Annabelle bedding is how simple yet elegant it is. I mean, this bedding suite could be used for so many different kinds of decorating styles from French Country to Cottage, Country House to Farmhouse and Vintage too. It’s that versatile!
Once the Annabelle bedding arrived, I hung up the bed crown panels and the bedroom curtains. All in all, it was 16 yards of Waverly fabric.
I can’t even tell you guys how nervous I was to make that first cut and sew that first seam! I had only made a few pillow covers, a set of no-sew curtains and some hair scrunchies to go with my cheerleading uniform in Home Ec before I decided tackle this huge fabric project.
It was definitely an adventure but I’m so glad I worked through the fear I would mess it up because it was totally worth it!
This will be our 5th One Room Challenge and while it was filled with a lot of ups and downs, I couldn’t be more excited to have this bedroom makeover complete. It truly feels like a retreat space now.
Every detail from the flower arrangements my Mom put together, to the furniture my brother in law helped me move including the vintage headboard which was crazy heavy, to the bed crown my Dad made, to the gorgeous Piper Classics Annabelle linens we used to dress the bed feels like a dream. I’m completely overwhelmed with gratitude at how it all came together despite the challenges and setbacks we’ve faced these past 6 weeks.

This is absolutely beautiful. I am very impressed with the bed crown and that fabric is gorgeous. I have just one question. Do you plan on having any bedside lamps for nighttime reading? I also hope that everyone in you family recovers quickly. You are very lucky to have such a supportive and creative family.
I appreciate it, Nancy, thank you so much! I am beyond blessed to have a family that is willing to help take on projects like these. We’ve been working alongside each other for years now. Even the ones on crutches did everything possible to help. As far as bed time reading, I currently have a book light but we’re hoping to move to a smart home lighting system one of these days so Alexa can turn off the lights for us 🙂 I’ll tell you I’m totally old school though so I’m not opposed to The Clapper either ha ha. I’ve tried 3 other times to contact you and they keep not going through! Not sure why, but I’ll try once more. This room is just gorgeous – I would love to spend a night or two!! 🙂 You are amazing – your home is so beautiful and welcoming – it suits you! I was so sorry to hear about your Dad’s heart attack and am amazed that he is healing so quickly! I hope he continues to heal until fully healthy again. My husband had to have emergency triple by-pass surgery when he had a widow maker’s blockage about 3 years ago. It was a total surprise since he didn’t have the usual symptoms of heart issues. I must say I was terrified! He had a wonderful surgeon and he healed quickly and completely. As you know – life can take an unexpected turn so quickly! Keep doing what you are doing because it is working! Love and hugs…

You did an outstanding job on this…I can’t even begin to say what I love about everything. But–I think its you and a testament to all of the different styles and elements that you mix so seamlessly. The bedding is gorgeous as well as the gold touches. The framed print of the Queen is so exceptional, original and lovely. What a beautiful touch!
Your pup is so darn cute. I just had to have my fifteen year-old best friend put down. It broke my heart and although he had cancer, the dementia made everything much worse. Sending prayers and love for a quality life for you and him.

You’re making me melt today, Jane, thank you! I was pretty determined to use as many of the pieces as we already had on hand in this space so it was fun to see it all come together. You can see the photograph of the Queen when you’re standing at the kitchen sink which feels like a fun “sneak peek.” We are over the moon at how the Annabelle bedding worked so seamlessly with all the different styles. It really is a great neutral color and pattern. Plus, the ruffles are fabulous too.

Thank you so much, Angela! He definitely gave us a scare but I saw him last night and he has been faithfully going to cardiac rehab 3 days a week. Hopefully he’ll continue to improve with each day. Thank you so much, Sarah, I appreciate it! My Dad swears he’s not creative but as you can see he clearly does not give himself enough credit when it comes to constructing bed crowns 🙂
As far as the bedding goes, I would say the honeycomb weave is something you would want to take extra care to minimize any picking. I plan to treat my set much like I would treat all our vintage linens and fabrics. That said, Piper Classics also has a ruffled set called Ashley and it’s 100 % cotton chambray which would be a good alternative to the Annabelle. Hope this helps! Hugs, CoCo
Oh, my! Coco, you’re family certainly has had A LOT of challenges – I’m glad your father is alright!!! How scary! Great team effort getting your bedroom completed. It is stunningly beautiful!!! Pinned several times. 🙂 I was thinking of putting up some type of corona over our bed this time as we no longer have a headboard (our daughter now has our queen cherry bedstead) with our CA King.

Thank you so much, Barb! I definitely count it a blessing to have so many DIYers in my family and the fact their willing to come along on this adventure makes it all extra special. In the beginning I really wanted a wall treatment like board and batten or shiplap in the bedroom but we decided that would be too much of a commitment. After that we changed gears completely and moved forward with the bed crown because it added interest without the work and expense of the wall treatment. I seriously think you need to open a Bed and Breakfast CoCo because you are an expert in putting together the most gorgeous and serene bedrooms around – and this one is no exception! I really appreciate it, Michelle, thank you so much. It’s interesting how you start out thinking you want the room one way (I swore shiplap was the way to go) but as you get further into the project things really start to come together pretty organically and take shape in a really unexpected ways. I couldn’t have imagined using any other bedding than the Annabelle. I almost got the chambray bedding because it also has ruffle but in the end, it just needed those cascading ruffles you know?
