Creating a Simple Holiday Spray

Today, we’re sharing ideas for creating a simple holiday spray!

I’ve been looking for ways to add seasonal touches throughout the house that can easily transition from one holiday to the next.

I’ve heard from a few of you that have already started decorating and others that will be decorating as soon as Thanksgiving is over.

It’s definitely an exciting time of year.

Holiday Decorating Inspiration

One thing I’ve tried really hard to do this season is to be conscious about making the house feel festive using pieces we already own, greenery from around our property, and items that are sentimental to us.

It’s those personal touches that make holiday homes feel comfortable and cozy!

In the past, we’ve had silver platters flank the sides of the china hutch in the dining room. They really help to add a touch of southern charm to the space.

I was looking for a festive way to update them for the season and in the process created a super simple holiday spray.

It took just a few steps to create this look and you don’t have to be a floral designer to pull it off!

Here’s a look at all the details in case you want to create a simple holiday spray of your own…

Simple Holiday Spray Supplies

You need at least 3 different types of greenery in multiple lengths.

These all came from our yard, are free from pests, and have been well cleaned and dried.

If you don’t have greenery or even a yard, seriously don’t sweat it! Pick up greenery stems you like from the flower market, craft supply store, or even the grocery store.

Simple Holiday Spray Steps

Gather the longest stems first and bunch them in your hand.

Next, add the medium-sized pieces on each side and in the middle.

Finally, add the shortest pieces to the bunch keeping them close to the front and in between the middle pieces.

Keep in mind this spray will be upside down!

As you’re adding each layer, flip it over to make sure you like the way it looks upside down since it’s going to stay that way.

Once you’re happy with the simple holiday spray, secure the stems with floral wire.

You want the bunch to stay as tight as possible so the stems don’t fall out. This means the floral wire needs to be very secure in order to keep them all in place.

Use caution and care when cutting stems uniformly as clippers and scissors will be sharp.

I used the EZ Bow Maker tool to make this bow from burlap ribbon.

Then I secured the bow and the greenery with floral wire to the platter’s handle.

You don’t want your simple holiday spray to be too heavy.  So, keep that in mind when you’re selecting and arranging the stems.

You can buy pre-made bows at most craft supply stores if you don’t have a bow maker tool.

Bows always feel festive to me but like a lot of you, I’m usually pressed for time during the holiday decorating season. Having a bow maker is always helpful!

Can you believe how easy that was?

Keep in Mind…

Keep in mind, you don’t have to use a silver platter or real greenery to make your dining room feel festive.

We found this faux greenery spray at the craft store and tied a simple satin ribbon around the stem. Then we hung it over the grain sack inspired art in the dining room.

It took about 5 minutes to put it all together but made the entire space feel special.

Let us know if you’re making a simple holiday spray this year and how you plan to decorate! Until next time, I’ll see you on Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest.

    1. The EZ bow maker was easy to use and I believe it costs less than $12 in this area. I totally stink at bows so I was glad to have the bow maker tool this year. It does take a bit of practice in the beginning but as with anything each time you use it you’ll get better and better. Good luck, CoCo

    1. Thank you so much, Kathleen, I really appreciate it. I have pretty bad allergies so I’m always on the lookout for “life like” greenery. I think Mr. Christmas calls it “permanently green.”:) It takes a bit of digging but both Michaels and Joanns have had a few garlands this season that looks and feel real. Hugs, CoCo

      1. CoCo, your spray is perfect and makes your dining room look very European, very elegant yet simply decorated. Love it!!! Going to browse the school tomorrow and see what I can clip for decorating here at home. 🙂 Nothing in my yard except the baby Alberta spruces and they aren’t big enough to go crazy clipping.

Enjoy your beautiful dining area! And yes, the silver behind the spray – they both compliment the other very well. <3
