How to Make a Simple Spring Centerpiece

Today, I’m excited to share with you How to Make a Simple Spring Centerpiece. I love this project because you can easily replicate this same idea using a variety of different containers as well as customize the color and type of flowers you want to use depending on your budget.

Let me show you how…

A few weeks ago, I asked my Dad to build a simple box made with some of the wood we had left over from taking down my bestie S’s wheelchair ramps last month.

While S still has a way to go as far as full recovery is concerned, I thought it would be sweet to use the box as a centerpiece in the dining room to serve as a daily reminder of just how far she’s actually come since falling last October.

The box was built as requested (Thanks Dad!)

and I brought it home and gave it a whitewash.

After the whitewash was completely dry, I lightly sanded the box and added a bracket from Lowes to the top and bottom of each corner.

Easy, peasy and now totally versatile too!

Given we don’t have a lot of storage options in this cottage for seasonal décor, we have to be very selective about what holiday items we bring home.  Most of the time, this means bringing home seasonal décor that can be reused from year to year.

While we purchased a few new items on sale to create this centerpiece, the bunny, the cream roses and the greenery filler were things we already had on hand.  In fact, you can see how we used the bunny in a super easy Easter Basket Centerpiece last year.

With that in mind, here’s a look at how you can shop your house, add a few new seasonal items and florals to create a simple spring centerpiece too…

Simple Spring Centerpiece Supplies:

• Rectangular Container
• Roses (color of your choice, we used cream colored roses from Hobby Lobby)
• Hydrangeas (color of your choice, we used cream colored hydrangeas from Hobby Lobby)
• Greenery (your choice, we used eucalyptus)
• Cabbages or Kale (color of your choice, we used green cabbages from Hobby Lobby)
• Bunny (color, size and style of your choice, we bought this one at Hobby Lobby last year)
• Vases (they need to be smaller than the height of your container, we used old paint cans)
• Burlap (we use burlap feed sacks as a filler but depending on the size of your container you might not need this)
• Books (we use small books to help add height but depending on the size of your container you might not need this)

Simple Spring Centerpiece Steps:

Step #1– Create a small bouquet and place it in a small vase or container.  We used 2 cream colored roses and 1 cream colored hydrangea to start out.  Don’t pack it too full yet, there will be plenty of time to fill it in later.

Step #2– If you need to add a bit of height to your small bouquet arrangement, place a small book on the bottom of your rectangular container,

then place the small bouquet arrangement in the vase on top of the book.

Step #3– Alternate a rose

and a cabbage all the way down the length of your rectangular container.

This is also where you might use the burlap feed sacks, floral foam or even plastic grocery bags to help hold some of the roses and cabbages in place depending on the size of your container.

Step #4– Place a bunny or seasonal decorative item of your choice in the middle of your simple spring centerpiece.  As you can see here our bunny is sitting on a burlap wrapped paint can.  Keep in mind, you’ll need to make sure you secure your bunny or decorative item in place.

Step #5– Once you have the roses, hydrangeas, cabbages and bunny where you want them, start adding your greenery filler.  We used eucalyptus.

You’ll also want to add any additional flowers to make your spring centerpiece full at this time too.

All in all, we used 9 roses, 3 hydrangeas, 4 cabbages and several bunches of eucalyptus for a container that is 28 inches long and almost 10 inches high.

What I love about this simple spring centerpiece is that you can completely customize this look and use whatever colors and types of flowers you want to as well as use whatever seasonal and decorative accents that speak to you.  This could jut as easily be used with soft blush colored roses and hydrangeas and a taller weathered bunny or even a cross.

We chose faux flowers because we really struggle with allergies, but again, you could just as easily pick up these same kinds of flowers at the florist and make the entire spring centerpiece with real flowers.

I think another exciting bonus about a neutral centerpiece like this is just how easily a few items can be swapped out to give it a completely different feel.

I mean, we’re going to love using this sweet little bunny throughout the Easter season but once it’s over, I can definitely see us changing the bunny out for a vintage horse trophy to celebrate the Kentucky Derby, flags for the summer, pumpkins for the Fall and even pinecones, cedar trees or ornaments for Christmas.
