May Favorite Things: Travel Essentials

Today, we’re sharing our May favorite things dedicated completely to travel essentials!

One of the best things about summer is the freedom to take more road trips. I’m definitely itching to get out and about again and I know so many of you are too!

This year we’re celebrating a back-to-basics kind of season which has me all kinds of excited.

In addition to enjoying a slower pace of life, we’re hitting the road to discover small towns and darling hole-in-the-wall places favored by the locals. I can’t wait!

While we’re still trying to figure out how best to manage Piper in the car, we know traveling with pets is the kind of thing where practice makes perfect (or at least that’s what I’m telling myself anyway)

Thankfully, her vet has been extra helpful with tips and medication management as well.

Now that our first official summer road trip is on the horizon, I thought it would be fun to share the travel essentials that help make our trips easier.

Here’s a look at our favorite travel essentials….

A Bit More About Our May Favorites: Travel Essentials

Harness…

We’re on our 5th harness with Piper and this is the one she seems to like the best. She chewed the straps off 2 of them, broke the straps on 2, and refused to wear her hiking harness altogether. Thankfully this one seems like a home run and the handle has saved us so many times!

Leash…

This leash is a little heavier than the ones we’ve had in the past but it’s really easy to use. Bonus, I don’t worry she’s going to get tangled up or break free when she sees a car or another animal.

My sister also uses this leash for her dog and they love it too!

Car Seat…

We’ve had to do a lot of car training and so far, this seat is holding up really well.  It’s easy to install and simple to clean.

The only thing I don’t love is that the front of the car seat is open a bit which makes it very tempting for Piper to try and hop out when we’re passing large trucks.

Thankfully, there is a sturdy seatbelt to help keep her in place!

ChomChom Pet Hair Remover…

If you’re a pet owner, you already know how important it is to stay on top of pet hair.  With over 107 K reviews the ChomChom is a great way to keep pet hair off furniture, car seats, and car upholstery as well.

Personalized Drink Tumbler

I’ve used this tumbler almost daily since receiving it as a Christmas present. Not only does it travel well, but it also helps to cut down on the number of glasses we’re using up throughout the day.

Bonus, I know exactly which tumbler is mine which is important when you’re in a big family.

Bite Box…

If you’re a family that likes to snack on the road, this bite box just might become a travel essential fan favorite!

Roadside Emergency Kit…

No matter what kind of car you drive, it’s always a good idea to have an emergency kit handy.

First Aid Box…

I’ll never forget the time we came upon a bad car accident and my Dad had to help administer first aid to several of the passengers.

Ever since that day, I’ve made it a point to carry a first aid box in my car and a small first aid kit in my purse.

Packing Cubes

I bought these packing cubes for my sister several years ago and she loved them so much she bought a set for each of the littles and her husband too!

Toiletry Case…

I also bought that same sister the hanging toiletry case shown above and she still raves about it.

Backseat Organizer

One of my girlfriends has this set up for her kids and I’m always amazed at how organized it keeps her car.

Portable Sound Machine

Piper is extremely sensitive to loud and unfamiliar noises and will work herself into a frenzy when spooked or uncomfortable.

We used a sound machine similar to this one at my parent’s house. Thankfully, it worked like a charm and Piper is able to sleep through the night no matter where we travel now.

Tee Shirt Dress

I’m pretty low-key when it comes to fashion. So, traveling with easy to put-together outfits like tee shirt dresses is always my go-to.

You can literally dress them up or down in no time!

Sneakers

Unless you’re staying at a beach resort, it’s always a good idea to have a pair of sneakers you love. Nearly my entire family wears some sort of New Balance sneaker and they have for years.

Polish…

I usually keep my polish like I keep my wardrobe, super simple.  This color goes with everything and looks good on everyone too.

Studs

I’m constantly checking my ears to see if my earrings are still in place which inevitably leads me to lose one or both.

These studs look just as fabulous as my real studs and have multiple notches on the post to help keep them secure.

Summer Travel Plans…

Whether you’re enjoying a summer slow down at the beach, hiking new trails in the mountains, or traveling cross country to add more stamps to your National Parks Passport book now is a great time to get out and about!

It’s been really exciting to see so many people sharing photos from trips they had planned before the pandemic began finally coming to fruition.

Several of the places we usually visit have been booked through the Fall season. And several members of my pod say the tourist town they live in has never been busier which means dinner reservations are a must!

I know this weekend is a big weekend for traveling too so I hope this travel essentials list has helped.

Let us know where you plan to vacation this year and the travel essentials you can’t live without! Until next time, I’ll see you on Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest.

Many blessings,

CoCo

  1. This is a great list of travel essentials! I never think to include the first aid kit…so thank you! That toiletry case looks like something I surely could use too.
    Happy travels to you 🙂

    1. Thank you, Maria! There are times when all 12 of us travel together with all 3 dogs so we’re constantly looking for easy ways to get everything packed and settled without too much drama. I used to forget about the first aid kit too but we’ve used it on multiple occasions and have been thankful to have it in the car. I’m still searching for an easy way to store and organize it all so I’ll let you know when I find one. Hugs and hope you get to travel some place fun this year too, CoCo
