Bliss Barracks Lanai Makeover Plans

Today, we’re sharing the Bliss Barracks Lanai Makeover Plans. This space is one of those spaces that gets used throughout the year and is definitely in need of a refresh.   I was talking to my Mom about her home goals earlier this year and honestly, there’s not a lot left to do at Loblolly Manor or Bliss Barracks save for tweaking a few things here and there.

So, when she mentioned she wanted to give the Bliss Barracks lanai a makeover, I jumped at the chance to help her. As you guys know, both of my parents are beyond generous with their time and talents and this project feels like an easy way to give back.

The lanai at Bliss Barracks is about 450 square feet.  There’s plenty of room for a large eating area, seating area, container gardening area, jacuzzi tub and place for my Dad to grill.  There wasn’t really anything wrong with the lanai before but over the years it had begun to feel cluttered to my Mom and she was ready for a refresh.

As always, the very first place I start when working on any makeover project be it with my parents, friends, family members, private pay clients, or at my own home is with the existing furniture and accessories.  This not only helps to establish a budget, it also helps to prioritize the items we need to shop for and purchase.

Thankfully, most of the outdoor furniture and the cushions on the lanai are all in great shape.  That said, there are a few things we have in mind to make the entire space more functional because my Mom’s number one goal is to make the outdoor spaces feel like an extension of the indoor spaces.

Our plan is to move the outdoor dining table down a bit to make room for a buffet, hutch and to create an area for my Dad’s smoker and grill.

The table has always driven my Mom bananas and most days she would just throw a tablecloth on top. She’s convinced my Dad to build her a new European Oak inspired tabletop over the existing one so we can have a bit more room which will be really nice.

This piece will serve as the buffet.  We plan to paint it in French Linen and pair it with the hutch top that is currently in the dining room at Loblolly Manor.

I started painting this dry sink also in French Linen on Sunday afternoon.  We’re going to turn it into a drink station to make this area more functional as well.

My Mom has had this baker’s rack for a long time.  It has the prettiest chippy patina and even though we’re moving around a lot of furniture she wanted to find a way to use it.  We moved it closer to the seating area to make more room around the dining area and our current plan is to use the baker’s rack as an outdoor kitchen garden. It’s not in great shape but I think we can save it.

This seating area is constantly used and while we thought about getting new couches and chairs, we can use the chairs at the dining table and the rocker was a gift when my Dad retired.

Our goal for this area is to add a few small tables for drinks, add new pillows, cushions and plants.

As far as the decorative elements go, here’s the feel of what we’re after for the Bliss Barracks lanai makeover.  We’ll be trading out all the pops of red for French Linen, blacks, whites, browns and greens.

I’m planning to go back to Bliss Barracks today to finish painting the dry sink and the buffet as long the weather holds out.  The hutch is still at Loblolly but will be delivered by early next week so we should be able to knock that project out soon as well. My Mom is already getting excited and I am too.  I can’t wait to see how everything comes together.
