Kitchen Desk Makeover Reveal

Today, we’re sharing the kitchen desk makeover reveal for Week 5 of the One Room Challenge!

If you guys had a chance to read Tuesday’s post you already know this has been a wild week for us. In fact, we have our first appointment with the surgeon today.

My parents and I have been working around the clock to get everything finished in time for the kitchen and pantry makeover reveal next Thursday. There is no way I would have even gotten this far had they not spent so much time rallying around this project this week.

It’s my sincere hope we’ll be able to finish the One Room Challenge despite the recent setback.

One of the tasks on my to-do list was to give the desk area in the kitchen a bit of a makeover. I didn’t realize it at the time, but S will be able to work at the desk from her wheelchair when she’s ready which will be fun. I know she’ll appreciate having something else to focus on during the day.

This is how the desk area looked when we first moved in…

Then we painted the kitchen cabinets a few years ago and it looked like this…

Not too bad but we knew it could be better, so we planked the walls of the kitchen…

and painted them in Valspar’s Bistro White. Even though this picture shows only one coat of paint on the walls, it made a huge difference!

We had a few extra chairs left over from our projects at Loblolly Manor, so my Mom brought back one for the desk makeover.

I painted the body of the chair in a custom mix of Valspar’s Faint Maple and Quail Egg,

before distressing it a bit with 320-grit sandpaper and adding a glaze I created with Faint Maple.

Then my Mom and I upholstered the seat with this preppy plaid fabric I picked up at Hobby Lobby.

I really want to do the chairs that are flanking the dresser in the entry same plaid now too.

Once the desk chair was in place, we added a few simple accessories to the desk. You guys know I have a serious love for equestrian trophies…

We picked up this cute little tool caddy to use at Loblolly but never found just the right spot for it. It’s a great size for these pencils and plants though.

These resin antlers have always been one of my favorite thrifted finds.

And this urn is a favorite as well. The plaster is so chippy and cracked now, I’m starting to wonder if I should just repaint it.

My Mom gave me this picture of her Dad with his military class. I have one of my Dad and one I picked up at Renningers and I’m starting to wonder if a little collection might be starting. You know it doesn’t take much around here ha ha. The frame which is also thrifted is painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in French Linen.

There is still a lot to do but I’m happy with the progress so far!

I can’t even tell you how guys much I appreciate your support especially now that we’re dealing with the aftermath of the accident. I had no idea this time last week our lives would be headed for such a big change. Thankfully, we’re up for the challenge in more ways than one.
