Decorating for Spring with Vintage or Salvaged Finds
Today, we’re sharing tips and tricks for decorating for spring with vintage or salvaged finds!
Over the past few years, it’s been so much fun to shop for vintage and salvaged finds. Each time I hit the treasure trail I really never know what I’m going to find which makes it that much more exciting.
Sometimes, I’ll come home with exactly what I’m looking for and other times I’ll come home empty handed.
Spring is a great time to shop antique malls, estate sales, charity shops and Spring festivals for those unique items that speak to your heart and captivate the spirit of your home.
Here’s a quick look at decorating for spring with vintage and salvage finds:
Layer Old Windows or Frames
Using old windows and frames on gallery walls, picture ledges, mantels, dressers, small buffets and console tables is a really easy way to decorate for spring with vintage and salvaged finds.
Most of the time window and frames will also be painted white or in neutral colors which makes using them around the house in any season, easy peasy.
Stack Up Collected Pieces of Ironstone
There is something about seeing a collection of ironstone that makes me swoon. It’s not always easy to find in this area so when I see a piece I love; I scoop it up!
Ironstone is another decorating item that is so utilitarian, it fits in seamlessly with a myriad of styles from farmhouse to cottage to French country and even traditional.
Discover a New Vintage China Pattern
Vintage china will always be a fabulous complement for your spring tablescapes both inside and out because they can easily be mixed and matched.
If you’re short on storage space but like to change up your tablescapes seasonally, consider buying white dinner plates then layering your place settings with vintage dessert or salad plates.
Not only are they smaller, they’re also less expensive too.
Display Your Favorite Baskets and Woven AccentsÂ
If you’ve followed us for any length of time you know our love of baskets runs deep.
in fact, they’re one of the first things I look for in the thrift store!
We use baskets all over the house for everything from keeping the pantry organized to decorating the tops of the kitchen cabinets, baskets and woven accents are an easy way to add texture to your home.
Consider Painting Furniture in a Spring Color
Painted furniture is one of those things you either like or hate. I personally like it because I think it easily adds interest to any room. Not only that it’s truly one of THE most budget friendly ways to dress up a piece of furniture.
Back when I was running an antique booth, one of the most popular colors was Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Duck Egg.
It’s definitely one of those versatile colors that can easily be used in a beach house, a farmhouse or in a home that is cottage inspired.
Use Spring Inspired Linens
Consider using vintage linens in fresh ways this spring from tablescapes to rag wreaths to bunting, to drawer sachets, pillows and napkins. You can even frame squares of your most treasured fabric!
True antique and vintage linens are not always easy to find and sometimes when you do, they’re not in great shape. Don’t let that stop you from looking though!
Some of my favorite linens came from the most unexpected places and they turned into projects we still use to this day.
Find an Unexpected Use for Old Items
I’m sure at one time these springs were used as part of an old bed. But they can be easily used to help corral something as simple as the mail.
I’ve even seen old springs holding beautiful eggs. As well as, lined with decorative paper and filled with candy and snacks as part of birthday lunch buffet too.
Keep in mind, when decorating for spring with vintage or salvaged finds that have been heavily chipped or weathered like metals, woods and concrete they need to be properly sealed, coated and safe to use.
Incorporate Galvanized Metals
When you’re out shopping this season look for galvanized buckets, feeding stations, watering cans, troughs or garden accessories.
They make fabulous planters and will easily help add another layer of texture.
Decorate with Potted Plants
We use faux and potted plants on the porches, tables and throughout the house. There’s just something about that fresh pop of green that reminds us of all the promises yet to come.
As always, make sure to check the plant’s care, sunlight and water needs before decorating with potted plants indoors or out.
Use Nature Inspired Elements
There are so many plants blooming in Florida right now. And new bird families chirping in the yard too.
Take a nod from nature and use soft colors like greens and blues or use material like nests, sticks or moss to create a spring look you’ll love.
I hope these ideas for spring decorating with vintage or salvaged finds have helped spark a bit of creativity. When it comes to finding unexpected uses for old items, the possibilities are endless.
