Quick & Easy Vase Makeover

Today, we’re sharing a quick and easy vase makeover you can create in no time!

Over the weekend, we made one last push to finish up the kitchen and pantry makeovers for the One Room Challenge. While we didn’t get to finish everything on the list, the kitchen is completely back in order now and it feels so good. I swear there is nothing like a cluttered kitchen to make you feel like your whole life is cluttered ha ha.

Since S’s accident in Week 4 I haven’t really had a lot of time to search for accessories to dress up the kitchen. So, I’ve been relying on the stash from my inventory closet and things my sweet Mom has picked up for us here and there.

One of the things she found for us was this yellow vase. It’s a great size and the height is perfect for the kitchen island, but the color doesn’t really fit in with our current color palette. I knew I could change that with a simple coat of spray paint and a little bit of layering though.

These are the kinds of pieces that most people would pass up at thrift stores, estate sales and charity shops based solely on the color. But you guys, this is something that can be effortlessly transformed with just a few materials for a quick and easy vase makeover. Here’s a look at all the details…

Quick & Easy Vase Makeover Supplies:

• Vase
• Rust-Oleum Universal Spray Paint & Primer (we used French Cream)
• Valspar’s Faint Maple Paint
• Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in French Linen
• Lint Free Cloth
• 2 Small Detail Art Brush
• 220-320 grit Sandpaper (optional)

Quick & Easy Vase Makeover Steps:

Step 1: Make sure your vase is clean and free from dirt or debris. As always, any time you’re spray painting projects like these make sure you’re painting in a well-ventilated area and are using proper safety precautions and care.

Step 2: If you’ve never tried this spray paint before it sprays out very differently than most spray paints.

The easiest way I can describe it is the spray paint comes out in a cone-shape mist and bubbles easily if the paint isn’t given enough time to dry.

Step 3: After your vase is spray painted, use a lint free cloth or fine detail art brush to go over any accents or embellishments on your vase.

We used Valspar’s Faint Maple as our base layer.

Step 4: Next, once your base layer is dry, use a fine detail art brush to add a layer of gray. We used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in French Linen.

Step 5: Finally, lightly sand around any embellishments, accents, or details you want to highlight or age.

No playing, it took longer for the spray paint to dry than it took to create this quick and easy vase makeover.

I clipped a few things from our yard to stage all the photos for the finale of the One Room Challenge, but I have no idea what these are actually called. Do you guys know?

They pretty much grow year-round, but I can also see this vase filled with cedar or pine clippings for the holidays, wildflowers during the springtime, hydrangeas in the summer and even roses for every day.
