ORC Update: Week Two Progress

This week…you guys…what a week! I don’t really even have the words to adequately convey what this week has been like because it’s been THAT all over the place. In my heart I know things are going to fall into place because they always do but I’m a planner. A big time planner. I wear the “I’m totally organized! I’ve got it all planned out! This is going to be Ah-Mazing!” label around like a badge of honor. So when things change as much as they’ve changed this week it feels like no amount of brownies will fix the high strung, wide open feelings that accompany those changes…and yet…like we always say here at The Goat…there have been ample opportunities to practice giving and receiving grace. As always a big thank you to Linda of Calling It Home for hosting the One Room Challenge. Here’s a look at our progress for week two…

You may remember I mentioned in Friday’s post we would be hosting guests over the weekend so I wasn’t really sure how much we’d get done on the master bedroom makeover. We spent all of last week getting ready for our company because as I may have also mentioned we’re in the middle of an office makeover too and the house looked like a cross between a construction zone and ten craft project explosions all at the same time. We mostly got everything settled before they came and even though I had junk stuffed everywhere (under the beds, the chairs, the benches, the dressers, the closets…it was that bad) they were so gracious and loving. We had a really great time. Sunday, we were able to move the furniture into the center of the room and paint the walls.

ORC Progress Update Week 2-1

We originally had picked out a color by Valspar that was called City Chic (the one on the top). It was really pretty but once we tried it against the white trim and saw the paint color transition from the bedroom to the bathroom we decided that Valspar’s Cathedral Stone would be a better choice.

ORC Progress Update Week 2-2

On Monday, I gave the matching nightstands a weathered feel by layering paint and wax. You can read all about that process here if you missed it.

ORC Progress Update Week 2-3

Tuesday found us with the room completely painted and ready to start the board and batten installation. After putting board and batten in the office and having to paint the drywall and the boards and batten simultaneously we decided to see if having the dry wall painted first would save any time.

ORC Progress Update Week 2-4

It wasn’t until Wednesday night we finished installing all of the board and batten so now we have to fill in the nail holes, caulk all the seams, sand and prime before we start painting. I think it’s going to look really nice though. If you’re wondering about the paint color, the darker color was taken at 730 pm and this one was taken at 130 pm. The difference is huge, right?

ORC Progress Update Week 2-5

Today, I’m going to try and finish painting as many of the pieces of furniture as I can. There is a small debate about this huge dresser that will all but carry the wall between the two windows and as well as a discussion the media cabinet that holds the TV and will also have to carry the wall. I know all the professionals say, “NO electronic devices in the bedroom!” I totally get it but everyone has their compromises and their non-negotiables. We’ll see how it all shakes down in the end.

ORC Progress Update Week 2-6

While we’re talking about compromises and non-negotiables, in addition to furniture placement changes which affects the furniture paint color choices, these are all the other changes that have happened this week…

The paint color…

The floor stencil…

The chair…

Some of the pillows…

ORC Progress Update Week 2-10

Maybe the mirror and artwork…this one…I can’t even talk about it, you guys…

ORC Progress Update Week 2-11

And finally, we’re going to look for wall lamps instead of sconces this weekend because we realized we’re not exactly hardwired for sconces.

ORC Progress Update Week 2-12

This is probably a totally lofty goal but I’m really hoping we can have the board and batten finished as well as all of the furniture settled and painted by the weekend. That way, if all goes well, we’ll be able to concentrate on tearing out the carpet and then preparing, priming and painting before finally stenciling the floors next week.

ORC Progress Update Week 2-13

Oh my word, you guys, just writing all the stuff out makes me feel like baking a pan of brownies right now ha ha! So much work left!

ORC Progress Update Week 2-14

Until next time, I’ll see you on Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest.

Many blessings,

CoCo
