How to Create a Fall Inspired Place Setting with Inexpensive Pumpkins
In this post, we’re sharing how to create a fall inspired place setting with inexpensive pumpkins.
I mentioned last week, we’re in the process of switching out all of the autumn apples for pumpkins around the house. We personally don’t decorate for Halloween because we never have any trick-or-treaters.
My nieces and nephews usually celebrate with a big dinner at my parent’s house before heading out to enjoy neighborhood festivities.
The other day, I went to the Dollar Tree to pick up a few seasonal supplies. I found these carvable pumpkins were the perfect size to use around the house for Thanksgiving entertaining and in late fall décor too.
Painting Inexpensive Pumpkins
As you can image, the bright orange is not really my style given my heart speaks in neutrals. But for $1 each, I knew I would be able to paint them. These are actually carvable pumpkins. I used craft paint I already have on hand to paint mine but you could also use chalk paint or even latex paint.
This was after the first coat of craft paint. You can definitely see the bright orange is still peeking through. I liked the green color of the stem so I decided not to paint it.
This was after two coats.
I know around this time of year, fall decorating expenses can really start adding up. So, I wanted to show you four different ways you can use a dollar store pumpkin in four different place settings. I’ve been collecting vintage dishes for a while now.
If you don’t have dishes like this no worries, you can find some online. You can also just use these basic ideas as inspiration and put your own stamp on it.
Be Creative
This coastal inspired place setting was created with plates we found at Marshall’s. We found the shells and sticks at the beach.
These carvable pumpkins seem to be made out of something that feels like styrofoam. Make sure to secure the sticks right into the side of the pumpkin stem. The shells can be secured with glue.
I created this romantic place setting using vintage green and white Haviland china and cuttings from the bushes around the front porch. The leaves have this beautiful mix of green and pink this time of year. So, I decided not to use a charger under the plate.
The elegant inspired place setting was created using feathers I found on the property, a broach I found at Hobby Lobby, napkins from the thrift store and an everyday white ironstone plate.
Finally, I pulled together this farmhouse inspired place setting using bits of old cotton, brown and white transferware and a saddle colored charger. The creamy white napkins were the same ones I used in the autumn apple inspired dining table.
See you guys back here tomorrow. I’ll be sharing a recipe for pumpkin spice bars with cream cheese icing that are so good it will have you running to the store for supplies.
Many blessings,
CoCo
Hey CoCo – Love your tips for inexpensive place settings that will carry you through the Fall season. Your ideas are beautiful and creative.
We hear you loud and clear about skipping seasons. We went to a big box hardware store and all they had left were 5 pumpkins…and they were totally decked out for Christmas!
I know exactly what you mean, ladies! It makes me sad when I feel like we have to rush through everything. Let me just sit and enjoy my PSL for like 5 minutes already! Hugs, CoCo
Beautiful Coco! The last one is my favorite too. I have to admit, when I saw the first photo, I wasn’t sure how those foam pumpkins could be cute, but after “Coco magic”, they are!! 🙂
Oh my gosh, that orange was so bright! I definitely had to tone it down a bit. As you know, I don’t do loud and crazy 🙂 Hugs, CoCo
These are so pretty!! I love that you used the leaves under the plates for chargers. Smart idea!!
Thank you, Angie, I bet the leaves in Tennessee are changing to such beautiful colors! Hope your week is off to a great start! Hugs, CoCo
WOW Coco, I have used the Dollar Tree Pumpkins several times but I love them in white on your transferware and all the different accessories you added. LOVE. Lots of beautiful ideas and inspiration xo Lisa
Thanks so much, Lisa, I really appreciate it. It’s one of my favorite places to plunder 🙂 Hugs, Coco
