DIY Valentine’s Mailbox
We’re sharing a simple way to let someone know you care about them with a super cute DIY Valentine’s Mailbox!
When it comes to Valentine’s Day, I can completely understand how easily the holiday can sneak up on you. Especially if you have a busy work, home, or family life.
Some of you might even be on the fence about celebrating even as you read this.
We try to live a “love in action” lifestyle where we honor and celebrate the spirit of Valentine’s Day, every day of the year.
And while we usually send the littles an extra special treat, take my parents (my first Valentine!) out to dinner, pick up something sweet for my besties and my rescue Piper, after that, we basically call it good to go.
Truthfully, we’ve been in and out of town so much lately I was this close to sitting Valentine’s Day out. But deep in my heart, I know it would totally regret not making more of an effort.
So, late last week I tried to think of something quick and easy to help mark the occasion. The minute I found this sweet wooden mailbox at Joann, I knew it would be the perfect way to keep things festive yet low-key.
Here’s a look at how I created a DIY Valentine’s Mailbox in about an hour…

- Wooden Mailbox (we found ours at Joann, but I love this one and here is a paper mache version too)
- ·Pink Paint (we used Valspar’s paint called First Light, but this one is a pretty shade as well called Willow Mist)
- Craft Paint (we used Deco Art Gloss Enamel Metallic in Glorious Gold)
- Paint Brush
- Detail Craft Brush
- Drop Cloth (to protect your work surface)
- Fine Grit Sanding Block (optional)
DIY Valentine’s Mailbox Steps:
Gather your supplies and lay a tarp or drop cloth down to protect your work surface.
Paint your wooden mailbox any color you like and allow for plenty of drying time between each coat. We used 2 coats of Valspar’s First Light because we had it leftover from the One Room Challenge Guest Bedroom Makeover.
Next paint the mailbox flag and any additional embellishments your DIY Valentine’s Mailbox might have. We used DecoArt’s Glorious Gold from the Metallics Line on ours.
What we love about these Valentine mailboxes is that you can paint and decorate them any color your heart desires! The mailbox door opens wide enough to be able to slip letters inside.
You can also fit a medium-sized box like a jewelry box in there too.
The Valentine’s mailbox is also fairly slim so you can place it on a countertop, coffee bar, or even a loved one’s dresser or desk.
Bonus – the flag on this one works, which means your Valentine can easily see if they have a special surprise waiting on them!
Keep in mind, the paint might rub a bit as you lift the flag up and down though so be extra careful.
A Quick and Easy Gift Idea…
SO easy, right?
This Valentine mailbox would be perfect for a friend, family member, spouse, coworker, or teacher. Honestly, anyone, you care about or want to celebrate this year.
In fact, love notes and gifts are fabulous in any season. You can use this same idea as part of your Advent Calendar in December or in the days leading up to a special birthday or anniversary too.

This is just precious. I also love your flower painting displayed with it. It compliments it perfectly. Can you share where you found it?
Thank you so much, Lynda, I really appreciate it. The flower painting was an inexpensive find I picked up at a thrift store years ago. I haven’t come across many with those colors so I knew I had to scoop it up. You might want to try Society 6, Etsy, or Charish for something similar or even Great Big Canvas if you don’t mind using a floral print until you find something antique or vintage. If I find another one, I’ll definitely let you know! Hope your day is a special one, CoCo
CoCo,
This is so cute and clever. I love the painting back drop as well. Thanks so much for sharing your talents!
Thank you bunches, Rachel! I’ve looked all over for other paintings like this one but they are so hard to find down here. Especially, with pinks, greens, and blues in them. This one was a thrifted find but I’m still keeping my eyes open just in case. Heading over to catch up on everything you’ve been up to, CoCo
Such an adorable and easy DIY! I love the pink color you painted it! Hope you have a very Happy Valentine’s Day! Donna

Thank you, Heidi! This little mailbox is the perfect size to use all around the house and we’ve had so much fun finding things to put inside. I’m getting ready to whip up a batch of your sprinkle cookies for the littles. They always love to celebrate with them because they are so festive! Hope your Valentine’s Week is off to a great start, CoCo
Love the little mailbox, you could so use it come Christmas with Santa’s letters. I love the frame you have for the backdrop very pretty. As always love your post CoCo! Happy Valentine’s Day!

What a sweet idea, CoCo!! I LOVE This. What a great find that mailbox was. You painted it the perfect shade of pink for this season. We too celebrate love each day in our house so I don’t go all out when it comes to decorating for Valentines day, just simple light pink touches here and there. Thanks so much for sharing this cute craft!!
What a cute idea! Thanks for sharing at Vintage harm. xo Kathleen
Oh my, Coco!! Your mailbox turned out so cute!!! I know you know that I featured it at this past Wednesday’s Share Your Style #377. What a cute idea to make especially with little ones at home! I could see kids really enjoying opening the box on Valentine’s morning to see what was left for them. Then…! They could keep repainting the box for whatever holiday is coming next! Would make a fun Christmas mailbox, too. <3 Let your imagination run wild. 😉
Thanks again for linking up and I need to ask you: Did you paint the rose painting behind the mailbox? It is gorgeous and I'd love to find one like it. <3
Thank you and Have a great Valentine's Day! Hope all is well with you. I saw you mention that you've been out of the house a lot. Prayers that all is well!
Valentine's love and hugs,
Barb 🙂
