15 Ways to Ease into Fall
Are you guys ready for Fall? Me too! I know it can be hard to get in the mood for Fall especially if you’re living in the South and the temps are sky high, the mums are nowhere to be found and the pumpkin spice latte hasn’t even made it to Starbucks yet. Even with all of those factors it’s still fun to think about the upcoming season and all the fun thing we can do to celebrate it. Here are 15 simple ways to ease into Fall…
Chose a Color Palette – There are so many gorgeous Fall colors to incorporate in your home. From cinnamon, saffron, plum, burnt sienna, pumpkin, sage, teal, taupe, stormy gray, ivory…the list goes on and on! The key is choosing a palette that is consistent with the rest of your home. You don’t want to be lake house in one part of the house, farmhouse in another and boho chic in another…you get me? Keeping your fall color palette consistent with the rest of your home will create that “pulled together” look you’re going for.
Research Magazines, Blogs and Pinterest for Fall Inspiration Ideas – As I have shared so many times in the past, I have a serious love affair with magazines. I keep three big baskets filled with all of my favorite issues. Most of them contain post-it notes or have the edges of pages folded down with images I feel inspired by. Although some are a few years old, it makes me excited to look through the pages again and rediscover classic autumn decorating ideas.
Start Including Seasonal Recipes in Your Menu Plans – Whether it be crisp apples, pumpkin, multiple squash varieties, soups or slow cooker recipes there are so many different ways to incorporate seasonal foods into your weekly meal plan. I have a serious sweet tooth so I’m looking forward to a fantastic baking season. These moist beet brownies with peanut buttercream frosting are a crowd pleaser for picky eaters.
Enjoy Fall Scented Candles – There’s nothing like coming home after a long day of work, lighting a fall scented candle and allowing the warm scent of pumpkin spice or marshmallows to fill each room. I picked up this Manly Indulgence Sea Salt and Ginger candle yesterday from Marshalls for less than $10. If candles aren’t an option for you, consider making a simmer pot filled with apples and cinnamon sticks or oranges and cloves. You can find other seasonal variations here.
Bring the Fall Decorations Down from the Attic – It’s always fun to go back through boxes of decorations and discover items we may have forgotten about from one year to the next. If I’ve used something on the mantle one year, I’ll try to repurpose it in say the dining room next year. It always forces me to be both creative and cost conscious from one year to the next.
Collect and Launder Seasonal Blankets – We usually keep our warm blankets on the top shelf of the closet because we don’t use them until late October or early November. Even though you may not need them for snuggling by the fire right away, they can add a pop of color to cozy chairs and comfy couches.
Play Around with Vintage China and Place Settings – Whether you’re entertaining a close friend or hosting a large gathering start putting together place settings now to help lessen the stress of entertaining later. You can found out how I used dollar store pumpkins in different place setting ideas here.
Stock up on Baking Staples and Spices – I love to bake all year but the oven really gets a work out around the holidays. Start stocking up on spices and nuts now so you’ll have everything at the ready when it’s time to start making pies, cookies and yummy cakes.
Spruce Up Your Porch – Pick up fall flowers at your local farmers market, nursery or home improvement store. They’ll help add color to your front porch and throughout your home.
Change Up Your Morning Brew – I love seasonal coffees and coffee creamers. It’s a morning ritual I look forward to every day. I’ll be stocking up on my favorites flavors of coffees, creamers and syrups so I can enjoy hot and cold beverages all season long.
Start cleaning out your closets and drawers this month – Fall always feels like a rebirth for organization, healthy routines and menu planning. Take a bit of time to go through closets and drawers this month so you’re not overwhelmed when it’s time to start stashing away gifts for the holidays.
Decorate the Front Door – Whether you live in an apartment, town home, lake house, farm or gated community use the front door to make a seasonal statement. Try your hand at making a fall inspired wreath, buy one from your local craft supply store or support the creative community by purchasing a fabulous wreath on Etsy.
Stock Up on Craft Items – Start using weekly coupons now to stock up on craft supply items. That way, you’ll have everything you need to craft all season long. It’s a great time to get ahead of the game with all of your holiday projects.
Make Room for Seasonal Favorites in Your Closet – Ok, so if you’re in the South right now we’re talking pulling out the cardigans and light jackets not the cable knit sweaters. I know it will probably be at least a month or maybe more before we’re even wearing sweaters but the mere notion they’re in the closet next to your boots means the cooler weather is coming.
Enjoy a Fall Mani-Pedi – So you may not be ready to go full on pumpkins, acorns or apples yet and that is totally ok. Treat yourself to a mani-pedi with a fun Fall color. This one is a classy gray/brown from OPI called How Great is Your Dane.
Bonus Tip – Take time to plan something fun that is specifically related to the Fall season. Organize a hayride, host a s’mores party, sample a variety of ales, giggle your way through a corn maze, go apple picking or enjoy the gorgeous color of changing leaves.
See you guys back here tomorrow. I can’t believe it’s Friday already and I’ll share all of my favorites from around the web. Until then I’ll see you on I’ll see you on Instagram , Facebook and Pinterest.
Many blessings,
CoCo
Super fantastic ideas CoCo. We can’t wait for the weather to cool off…and have our first pumpkin spice latte, fire in the fire pit and pick apples.
Sounds like the making of the perfect day ladies, can’t wait! Hugs, CoCo
These are fantastic ideas, Coco. We don’t get much fall here until later…I love to fake it though and I’ll be incorporating some of these ideas beginning of September. 🙂
I know just what you mean, Stacey, it’s still crazy hot in Florida too! I swear it doesn’t feel like Fall until the fair comes to town and for some reason the temps cool off just enough to make it feel like the season has finally arrived 🙂 Sending you big hugs, CoCo
Your simmering pots varieties are terrific!
I appreciate that Pam, thank you so much! Hope your day is a fun one, CoCo
