Setting and clearing the table used to be part of our chores each day. We always wanted to be on the team that set the table because we got to decorate the table any way we wanted.

Sometimes, we would only have enough room for the food because we were eating family style. Other times, we would pick wildflowers and foliage from the yard or we would pick up a quick bouquet at the grocery store.

We would also eat out on the patio with candles and all sorts of girlie linens. It was pretty dark, and we could barely see our food but man, we thought it was so cool to eat outside. I can honestly say, eating outside is still one of my favorite things to do.

If it’s been a while since you set the table and enjoyed a family meal now is a great time to reconnect with each other. Creating a festive Fall tablescape doesn’t have to be fussy or super involved at all.

Use a Seasonal Color Palette that Complements Your Home’s Existing Colors

We have lots of grays, creamy whites and pops of camel in our home. So, our seasonal color palette of rust, chocolate and pale blue complements our existing palette. If you’re stuck on which colors to use take a cue from Fall fabrics or try your favorite combinations found in nature.

Vary Texture and Soft Elements in Your Seasonal Tablescape 

Consider incorporating and layering seasonal fabrics like flannels, wools, burlap, cashmere, cable knit, and velvet into your festive Fall tablescape. They will help to create a cozy feeling in your home and will help to add a layer of interest too.

Create a Simple Place Setting with a Few Key Pieces

Keep in mind, it doesn’t matter if you’re creating a festive Fall tablescape for two or two hundred. A simple place setting is all about the details. You’ll more than likely need a charger, various size plates depending on how many courses you’re serving, silverware and/or cutlery pieces, glasses and napkins.

Don’t be afraid to mix and match for a vintage feel or to use “the good stuff.” I truly believe linens and china are meant to be used not stored in the attic waiting for a special occasion. There is something to celebrate in every day!

Mums, magnolia leaves, thistles, sticks, goldenrod, dahlias, certain kinds of daisies, autumnal leaves, blooming branches, pinecones, coleus, acorns and deer sheds are usually plentiful this time of year. They can help to add quick and easy pops of color for a festive budget friendly seasonal feel as well.

Shop the Produce Aisle or a Local Farmer’s Market for Seasonal Edible Decorations 

Apples, persimmons, grapes, gourds, pumpkins, acorn squash, pears, cranberries, plums, pomegranate, guava and herbs are all in season right now. They all look so pretty on festive Fall tablescapes.  Arrange them in a grouping or around each place setting.  Be as creative as you like!

Creating a festive Fall tablescape doesn’t have to take a lot of extra work. After all, the one thing that makes dinner with friends, family, coworkers and neighbors feel special is that they feel welcome in your home.

I know it can be super easy to just grab something on your way home from work or to curl up in front of the TV and watch your favorite show on Netflix.  We’re not judging at all.  Movie nights on Friday’s complete with ice cream and gluten free pizza are some of our favorite things too!

The thing is, setting a festive fall tablescape can be accomplished on any day, at any time, with any budget.  You just have to be intentional about making the effort.
